New Nile track

"Annihilation Of The Wicked" was one of the worst DM releases of 2005. So damn disappointing. Uninspired riffs that go nowhere, over-polished production. Avoid at all costs.

I can understand maybe not loving the album, but "uninspired riffs?" "go nowhere?" "over-polished production?"

Maybe your cat took a poop in your ears? :tickled: :Spin:

Or maybe I've reached the point where one doesn't get extremely impressed by pointless solo wankery, OMG OMG SO TECHNICAL musicianship and ten minutes dull "DM epics" anymore :loco:

Nah, seriously, I like a lot of death metal (my favourite metal genre by far), but this here Nile record is just a waste of time, except "Cast Down The Heretic" and "Lashed To The Slave Stick" (the only songs on the record that actually have decent riffs).

I hate cats btw

Yeah, the new Nile is certainly not epic like their previous. Title track to "Darkened Shrines" anyone?

There's perhaps 3 really good standout tracks on the new Nile, and the rest is perfectly ok. I just preferred their previous outings.

Rudra is epic so it wins me over. Bolt Thrower has a few new twists and turns (inspired groove a la disco beats, haha), but for straight up death metal in '05 I'd probably give it to Naglfar.

Overall though, I'm no death metal guru. In fact, it might be my least favourite genre overall. Not enough Pestilence, too much Hate Eternal bollocks.

Actually, the last 4 tracks on the new Nile are pretty great, including "Lashed". The title track is outstanding. It's like the whole second half is better than the first.

Ali, I love ya man, but new Naglfar is 1,000,000 miles from death metal :tickled:

I listened to it a couple times more and stick by my original assessment of it being the 3rd-best Naglfar album (after Vittra & the massive Sheol), giving it an 8/10.

Who knows, and who cares, but from the Melodic Black Metal thread:
