but wouldn't it be Sauron & the One Ring VS the holders of Nenya, Narya and Vilya?

as far as i knew the Ring couldn't act of it's own accord, only under the will of Sauron; hence why Sauron couldn't control the wearers of the Three Elven Rings as he'd never touched/worn them.

Plus by destroying the One Ring, the three rings would nullify their own powers as well, so why bother?
