New Sabaton Details Have Me Skeptical...

just like Tesseract?

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be some kind of insult, but if it is it's kind of funny how out of touch you are (and how you can't read either because I don't know where I used those words you quoted me in with regards to that band) lol...

If it's not an insult, sorry, my bad.

It was taken from your post a few sections up. It was meant as a dig because you and a few others were saying about a year ago how they were going to be huge because of the push the label and management was giving them......here we are a year later and they are not what I would call HUGE.

People can hype a band and push them all they want. Sometimes it just wont work.

Yeah... over the span of 3-5 years.... Not in one year...

But while we're on the subject of NOW

Yeah playing to that crowd every night Stateside (incl the HoB in Chicago) is *small*.

And I want to point out, I'm not trying to diminish Sabaton's status. Sabaton is achieving a level of success that very few power metal bands have ever been able to attain and much of that came through hard touring and work throughout Europe. They hauled ass for YEARS and it's finally paying off for the band. I'm saying though, that the fact they're going to sing in another language probably will have no effect on that. If anything, I'm defending the band.

I was planning on seeing Sabaton for the first time in Worcester on May 5th since I've always heard great things about them...then Arch/Matheos announced their warm up show in Hartford on the same night...Sorry Sabaton...maybe someday

Your odds of seeing Arch Matheos again are a lot smaller than your odds of seeing Sabaton. Smart call.

In the us, Kvelertak just signed up with Mastodon's agent. Band is going to be stupid huge.

I was kinda shocked by Kvelertak's popularity. In their debut Chicago show, though they still only played at a small club (The Empty Bottle), it was the most-packed show of any concert I've ever seen there. Maybe 150? Which seems crazy for a 1-year-old metal band with one album playing their debut show. I didn't go to the Sabaton show here (where they weren't headlining anyway), but I'd guess at least in the US, Kvelertak is already ahead.

They drew about that many here, too. However the bill (and I don't know if it was a different bill from Chicago) had Skeletonwitch and Zoroaster, who both have very good draws. Zoroaster does especially since they're local to Atlanta. So while they do have some good sized shows, they are with bands who are already established. I think, at least in Atlanta, Sabaton drew a comparable crowd on their own with only local support. Don't know what the Evergrey tour was like. I do see Kvelertak ending up bigger than Sabaton since they draw a considerable portion of their fanbase from non-metalheads while Sabaton is pretty much exclusively metalheads.

Actually, I know a bunch of folks who aren't into metal but love Sabaton. I think they appeal to the military crowd a lot.

what military crowd? was the place filled with Nam vets?

Who cares who is bigger than who. As always you cant tell from size places they played and what not. Some bands seem like they draw but it may be because the touring package they are on.

Can't tell if serious or trolling.

I am VERY serious as i am a big fan of John Baizley's artwork. but shall we do a side by side comparison?

So yeah, a troll i am not. kind of hard to dispute who has the better cover art.

Then again... Sweden always remains neutral during wars as far as I know... doubtful they'd ever invade anyone.
In the current couple centuries but I think some Finns remain bitter.

I have quite a few albums in foreign languages that I enjoy - sporadically. They do not get the same amount of play because, of course I LIKE to sing along and understand the lyrics, and that was one of Sabaton's big appeal to me.

I don't quite understand why they are doing this. Don't get me wrong, I give them tons of credit for trying something different, but over the last few years they're really been gaining popularity. This is why I think it's a little weird for them to be going this route now. A couple albums from now when they've solidified their status, okay maybe but now? Strange. Maybe a few songs or so in Swedish but the whole album? It's a very risky move that could turn a number of fans away. I wouldn't be one of those turned away (unless the album as a whole sucks), but a lot of people do not like non-english singing.
Agreed. I didn't think they were quite at the level yet where they could do an album for mostly art's sake and not to sell albums and make money. Of course, bands would like to sing in their own language and if they want to make this album purely as an historical tribute or something fine. But only about 10 million people speak Swedish, so they are limiting their buying pool.

Totally. I fucking love patterns, but am not a huge fan of Owlipi.

Either way, trying to explain that one piece of art is better than the other is kind of like trying to tell someone what genre of music is the best.

I would probably not bother with a cover of an Owlipi that's tentacle raping two women.

Good for Sabaton! I think Nuclear Blast made some fans for those who champion artistic freedom. I'm sure NB had some trepidation giving their blessing since I'm sure it will impact sales, but by God, this is why we, the metal community, should embrace Carolus Rex. It represents what we all strive to achieve in our professional and personal lives; doing what we want to do, when we want to do it, and not letting perception get in the way. That is just so fucking metal! :kickass:

I like both. I'm a fan of minimalist covers. However I am a huge sucker for John Baizley's everything. He and Kurt Ballou are renaissance men in hardcore whose talents are irreplaceable!!!
