It sounded good to me. Then again, Suffocation and cryptopsy are the only straight death bands I listen to. Everything else has melody, and great producton. Compared to that, it sounded nice. I should pick up Pierced From Within one of these days.

Suffocation remain an enigma in metal circles. No One and I mean no other band has been as brutal as Suffocation. Yet they remain a footnote in metal history for many.
This needs to be corrected.
Can anyone listen to Pierced From Within and not live a perverse pleasure of insanity that is called death-metal refined to an artform.

There is no equal. There just is not.

Maybe Nile comes close but it is so fucking dense and oppressive that the chops get clouded in those Egyptian mists.

Suffocation wrote gore, death and all those intelligent themes that DM is noted for. Great stuff. The guitar playing is so insane that I reserve judgement on if it is good or bad. It just is.

It is not a one album listen. Tracks in the middle of the album open up. It is not all out insanity.
You must spend an uncomfortable time to appreciate a beast. To understand the flow of otherwise barked out commands.
Pierced From Within is death metal that defines death metal.
We are still recovering even today.
