I know most of you hate doom (But then again you all hated folk metal until Glen booked some, right???), but the new Gates of Slumber moves into even more of a traditional metal approach.

Every sub genre has a "movement" (IE - doom, stoner, trad, thrash, etc)

I am all for it, as long as it is done well.

For those discovering trad / NWOBHM for the first time through the newer bands, do yourself a favor and look into the classics as well!!! This is one subgenre that probably has the most undiscovered gems (Considering so many released only demos or 7" singles)

I think that at times there is a blurring between the lines of good traditional metal and good traditional doom metal. They both share a common proto-metal bond that isn't seen in the more extreme genres of heavy metal.

Agreed 100%

For a long time, I didn't check out Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General, because they were labeled as both NWOBHM and Doom, and this was before I was more heavily into doom, so I thought I wouldn't like them. Boy was I wrong!!!!

I suppose if Black Sabbath are the first true heavy metal band, then it is inevitable that a little doom flavoring will be present in trad metal bands, right? :headbang:

I just spun the new disc by this band Ravage. Metal Blade just signed them and is putting out the CD, and it's pretty good stuff in this vain. Slough Feg and Cauldron are also killer!

I cant wait to get this. I have read nothing but great things about it.

I'm having a hard time describing it as anything but PURE HEAVY METAL, as there are so many cool elements in it.

I hear some King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, some Helstar, some Accept, some Anthem, some Maiden/Priest and especially some old Omen.
