Newest machine (of lamb of god et al mix fame) production

Rly psyched on hearing the rest of this. Album release is June 18 for those interested. Digging the mix more and more. For those who don't know, these guys were playing shows with us and pwd before they blew up with killing with a smile. It would be nice to see them get the worldwide acclaim that parkway have a achieved. US and Europe people should expect to see tours near you by the end of the year.

I only just found out about his and was stoked that they had finally decided to go overseas to record. Its definitely going to be a cut above anything they have done before. Vocals sound way different, more like early Amity, but with more agression, not something they have done on the last 2. Machine is the man!

Guys have another new song up from this upcoming album called youngbloods.

I think it goes up for sale next week.

Gtrs in beatdowns are quadtracked vht pitbulls through a mesa cab,

most heavy gtrs are diezel vh4s

the drums were a tama bubinga kit with 36 mics on them, the toms were tuned to each song differently

the snare was a tama bell brass or similar - vintage

vox were all sm7b in front of blaring monitors

for the gang vocals, machine had them in front of the monitors blaring, around the mic, and then just hit a kill switch on the monitors as the line came and went

pretty cool for keeping the vibe

bass was reamped through gtr amps as well i believe

album was sitting pretty nice and high at like #4 on the world itunes charts the other day

so stoked

anyone else digging on this? probably aus release of the year. The production smokes deep blue

Album keeps growing on me every listen. Chorus's are better than ever!

Totally agree on deep blue. Sounds very raw which is cool, but they have pushed the drums way too hard and all in all its a pretty messy mix. Amity's master could have been a bit louder (very soft when compared to other releases on my ipod) but I can deal with that. Their best quality album to date in all respects for sure.

... and not to get into a debate with anybody - I still don't wish that LOG would've stuck with Machine for their latest effort.
I mean - I understand why they did it - but I just think if LOG would've sat down with Machine and talked about things, they would've had an even better album on their hands.
Oh well.
I dig this album / band.
Take care

Scott

I am acutally a big Machine fan. Love what he did with LoG's Sacrament!

in fact I used the "run around the block 2 times and come in and sing" video last week to put a vocalist in his place when he was bitching that he couldnt sing something I wanted him to cause he was "out of breath" while doing it.... hahhahaha

Got this a little while ago.

Sick fucking album.

Heard the tune on myspace before it was released was like, hmm don't know if i dig it.
Got the album.
Hit play and was like, Fuck. Yes.

Been listening to it on repeat a lot hahahaha.

Killer fucking release.

Not usually my kinda cup of tea but Machine's production has obviously helped them write some damn catchy songs so I've been spinning this disc quite a bit lately.

Off to shoot photos of the guys with Misery Signals momentarily, in fact.

Would love to hear their assessment of the recording experience - the 'one room studio' thing Machine does is kinda cool - being back-to-back with the drummer while he records might be kind of shitty, but I like the whole "vocalist in the same room" thing.

vocalist in the same room is the only way to go bro. i've done this from day one as it just seems most natural to me. only learned recently that machine did the same thing.

try it, sometime!

i always thought it would be sweet as shit to have a decent-sized space with some sliding doors to cut it in 1/2 for drum/guitar tracking, and otherwise be one big room

hopefully when my old-ass next door neighbors kick the bucket, i can buy back the detached garage that's behind my place and do just this...it was originally part of the property that i now own, but the previous owners sold it to the neighbors because they never used it!

You know, estate taxes have a lapse this year... might be time to talk to their grandkids! ;)

I've always done the one-room studio thing, out of necessity, but it seems like Machine does it out of choice and doesn't have a problem with it. Stuff like the FYS album sound absolutely fucking retardedly good, so his results speak for themselves!

The drums were recorded at another seperate studio with machine on the other side of the glass. 36 mics. He made them play every song live in one room with him for a week to suss arrangement and production ideas. The drums were all killed, then triggered to the pa. Apparently he wanted the drummer to still be playing a real kit because of the feel and size, just wanted it quieter. Ryan is probably the best hard rock drummer in the world though. It srsly would be worth paying him to hit the drums for sampling.
