What type of music is NILE? From what I can gather they're death metal of some kind, but I'm not sure. Is that accurate?

Also, what other bands would you compare them to?

Thanks for the info :)

they're the 'boring' death metal kind. i'd compare them to hate eternal and six feet under on making me sleep during their set (which actually happened at the art of noise 2 tour)

=o

Nile. Oh yes. Technical, brutal death metal with Egyptian influences, both lyrically and musically. No, they should not be compared to Hate Eternal, as they are a million times more complex and interesting. Their best album is definitely "In Their Darkened Shrines". Check out the anthem "Unas, Slayer of the Gods" and be convinced.

I don't see how anyone who likes death metal can think Nile is boring. They are quite original, and technical. Nile is essentially a brutal death metal band with many songs and riffs in the "Middle Eastern" scale. I happen to think the Middle Eastern scale sounds really cool, so I love Nile. Yeah, Nile might be my favorite band. But from an objective point of view of someone who knows a lot about music, I can say that Nile is leaps and bounds about other death metal bands such as Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Incantation,Six Feet Under, Deicide, etc. musically.

I personally think Nile are in a league of their own.

You can't compare them to Six Feet Under or any other other band really.

Brutal Technical Death Metal, if you delve a bit deeper they are all clever guys, the lyrics to Unas Slayer Of The Gods are probably the oldest lyrics ever, they are a translation of "The Pyramid Texts" being about 5000 years old at least.

Got all their albums and one of my favourite bands.

Of course Nile is better than the old dogs like Deicide, Six Feet Under or Napalm Death, but to call them the best death metal band around is an exaggeration. The music is not awfully different from that of Immolation, Hate Eternal or Internecine, but they add a few Egyptian samples and that seems to be enough for some people to call them original. I find all four mentioned bands boring. When I listen to "In Their Darkened Shrines" it just doesn't keep me interested long eough. Not saying they are bad musicians or anything, they are excellent. It is the songs that bore me; they just seem to lack something on the composing front. As far as brutality goes, they are by no means the best death metal act around. They just don't compare with the likes of Brodequin, the Californian Disgorge, Devourment, Sect of Execration, Cinerary, Enmity, Foetopsy, Deeds of Flesh, Debodified and many other.

Nile could be compared to Immolation and Necophagist although I would say that both are slightly better (Immolation in perticular) but mainly because of the Tech-death tag. Their sound is more traditional and straight forward, more akin to Vital Remains or Behemoth who are also great bands.

I dont mind some Nile songs but a lot of the time i think that the songs go nowhere, its just a barrage of insane riffs and blasting. I know a lot of DM is like that, but Nile do it differently, IMO.

Nile is one of the only death metal bands doing anything of interest these days.

Death metal has been stagnant from ages. Thankfully, Nile's Egyptian theme isn't just a selling point, they can actually play high quality death metal as well.

I like the fact that the whole thing of Egypt is not at all a gimmick, if you see the CD cases each song has a passage as to what the song is about and why it is important.

Masturbating the war god, that is about an actual ritual sacrifice were women of conquered armies soldiers were sacrificed on a giant stone penis, and split in half at the same time, of course.

Wow, that's awful.
