Nile

Yeah and Unas was a real Pharoah.

He conquered many armies and believed that by eating his enemies he gained their power, he is said to have become so powerful he could conquer the gods and ascend to Orion, which the Egyptians saw as Paradsise

I once spoke to a professor of Egyptology and he thought they were the best band ever, he could speak Ancient Egyptian, so he could understand what the songs in Egyptian were about.

Enough of a lesson for one

Wow, the professor likes Nile? Does he like the music as well?

Nile are the best Death Metal right now, they are very technichal and brutal
If you had forgotten that Immolation, The Chasm, Vore, Argoslent, Windham Hell, Vital Remains, Destroyer666, Gorguts, Impaled and Necrophgist existed, then yeah sure Nile would be the worlds best DM band.

oh btw while we're talking about it, what is their best album?

I really like what i've just heard of them, and I want to add them to my 'to get' list.

Which album should I get?

In their Darkened shrines. The others are less developed and complete, a Terrorizer reviewer said that Black seeds... could be made in to a classic EP but as a full length it was lacking. I agree with this.

Yeah the professor guy did enjoy the music aswell as the lyrics, which was cool.

I'd say get Black Seeds Of Vengeance.

Guest vocals from Ross Dolan on a couple of tracks.

Although, I do prefer Jon Versano to Chief Spires, so In their Darkened Shrines is edging it for me at the moment.

I only ever listen to random songs from the two albums i've got DL'd (ITDS & BSoV). And i prefer the BSoV material. Although i can only tell what song is from what album by the production.

I absolutely fucking love Nile, I just wish that the vocals were a bit less muddy. Dallas has a great voice, almost a bark, but he's understandable, Chief and Karl, though, sound like they need to spit out some Listerine or something. Jon, from what I've heard, is pretty good, but he was only upgraded to "Full band member" status after ITDS was redorded. So hopefully he won't disappoint on the next album

The only one drawback about Nile is those unnecessary noises and chants that the have between songs, or even at the beginnnig of some of their songs. This is more of a problem on Black Seeds Of Vengeance and especially Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren Ka, but there is definitely some of it in the latter half of In Their Darkened Shrines As Well.

I didn't like older Nile because of the neverending brutality, but their latest gem has so much Egyptian melody and stuff, that an 11-minute death metal song(the prospect itself puts me to sleep) is rendered interesting and dynamic. I'm referring to Unas, Slayer Of The Gods, of course.

These guys should go snag those Egyptology degrees their work so righly deserves.

I agree on a certain level.

In the Beginning (Festivals of Atonement/Ramses bringer of War) had a great variety, including some ethnic instruments, I think they actually used genuine instruments made of human bone :yell: at some point.

So I do like the mix and Unas perfectly highlights that, also the Darkened Shrines 4 part thing at the end is great, a cool Drum solo thing with samples and stuff to begin with and then into the rest. Originality is always good.

Brutality is always good though and I like all Nile's albums but I think Black Seeds and Darkened Shrines are 2 great albums each deserving at least a listen.

I pretty much can get into their music instantly. I love the beginning of that song "Ramses Of War", it really has that epic atmosphere. To me they sound similar to later Morbid Angel. I dont really agree that they are brutal death metal. When I think brutal death metal Obituary and Exhumed come to mind.

I cant believe some of you are saying that Death Metal is going stale. Heard any Dying Fetus and Entombed?

Nile. Just another Death Metal band. The difference is their sound is more egyptian. Their lyrics can be hard to understand since most are legends from egypt. Since their all really into Egyptian mythology. All in all great band whether you like that kind of stuff or not. It's not a huge interest to me but Nile truely is a great band :)

Obituary, brutal? I thought they were more "old-school-death"? And yes, I've heard Entombed. Their good work is like 10 years old. Their latest work is not good at all (is it even death metal).

Melechesh sound nothing like Nile IMO. The only similarity is that they both like to write songs in the Middle Eastern Scale. They are pretty good though. They are pretty much a black metal band. I like Nile better, as I prefer death metal over black metal. Another cool band that sounds like Melechesh is Arallu, who are kind of a black metal/thrash hybrid.
