Non-musical hobbies?

I really don't remember this happening, but a pic I found on my HD makes me think I'm into trying out women's bathing suits:

Quite a mix of hobbies gents!

pifos2: Nice image bro...I've been quite a big fan of Chimay Red as of late. Tasty indeed. I can't wait to come back to Belgium in September.

Marcus: No, it's actually a Saiga 7.62x39. It's a cheap, Russian-made, civilian AK-47 basically. It's made in the same factory and is considered a hunting rifle. All of the holes, etc. to convert it to a traditional AK look w/ trigger assembly are there. There's actually quite an online scene of guys who like to customize them.

When I bought it, it looked like this:

G039.jpg

With some simple tools, dremel, and some patience I moved the trigger group forward and added a new, smoother trigger, added AK plastic style furniture (handguards, pistol grip, buttstock), and it looks and fires more AK like now. The internal mechanics are exactly the same as the AK. It's just a fun and cheap gun to shoot.

It looks like this now:

Yep, quite a bit more \m/ than the stock gun, but the internals haven't change minus the new trigger. Some know-nothing gun people look at it and think it's menacing and illegal, but it's 100% legal and they can be found in any gun shop.

spioraid: That sounds like a pretty cool job, the reenacting. How did you get in the red dot business?? You have some cool guns dude! I'd love to have a real old Mauser or Mosin-Nagant. Although I REALLY want an M1 Garand.

-Joe

Cheers dudes

I seriously need to be slapped upside the head. I do have an M-1 Garand. It's a post-war, so it's not the .03-06 like the originals, but it's a 46 if I recall correctly and chambered in .308. Got a new stock for it and it works great.

As for working with C-More, one of my re-enacting friends works for them and heard I needed a job, so he was able to place me in pretty sweetly.

The stock has been cut down by my great-grandfather in an attempt to make it a hunting rifle. Unfortunately, it's way to powerful for that.

Badass man, nice handywork! Semi-auto (not full) I assume?

Thanks man!

Oh semi for sure dude! NJ is the worst state to live in for gun laws, so owning a full-auto is near impossible. No civilian can own a full-auto made after 1986, so the ones already floating around in the country are the only ones that can be owned.

Someone living in Utah, Nevada, or Arizona would have a much easier time obtaining the permit for one.

I'm totally happy with this one. It's a fun gun! I also have a pretty sweet shooting range here in NJ. It's surrounded by watershed property and is a blast to go to:

Haha, wow Andrew, that Mosin Nagant looks like it was made out of clay (all lumpy and malformed) - are you saying that's the one your gramps cut the stock on, or the M1?

Wow, nice collection dude! Nice M1.

I really love everything about the M1 and I still haven't fired one.

Other than the Saiga, I'd like to own an M1, Bushmaster M4, and a Sig P229. Then I'm finished!

:)

Joe, how much did that rifle run you?

Spioraid, do you stick to aromatics? I started with those but now I mainly do va-pers and English.

Jeff

Jeff,

The Saigas have always been cheap and used to be sold for $250 or so. It seems that interest has caught on and prices are rising. Firearms sales went up immensely since the election everywhere! It's one industry that is really thriving right now.

I bought mine in October and with tax it came to around $430?? The extra parts for the conversion totaled close to $280??

They are still relatively cheap compared to other guns, but are going up all the time.

The Mosin Nagant does look like it's malformed and all Gumby like, but to be honest it probably shoots the best out of all of them. It's just something weird about the way the stock was cut on all of them that makes them look bent or something. But I've stripped it and taken a good look at it and everything is straight. My great grandfather cut the stock on the Mauser, the 3rd picture from the top. A LOT of the post-war Mausers either got scrapped or totally modified for hunting. I'm lucky that the one piece of missing stock is it. I've seen a lot of other ones that have been rechambered, synthetic stock or in pieces.

J. Davis, the P229 is a great pistol. Slap a C-More on there and you've got a race gun. :D The Bushmasters are good but I can't recommend high enough the DPMS stocks. Even if you got a combo of DPMS upper and a Bushmaster lower, it'll do ya good.

Jeff, right now all I have is aromatics. I would love to start with other kinds but I got a 2nd pack of an aromatic called Culloden at Christmas, so I'd like to be able to at least get through my Mahagony before I buy anymore. Ever tried Half and Half? That looked good to me. Any good VA blends you recommend?

Thanks for the recommendation man! I'm gonna check those out.

There are things to do other than day-job and music? :zombie:

I'm actually a Toyota of North America certified vendor for accessories. My schtick is painting headlight housings for the 2nd generation Tundras, the chrome in the housings is awful looking and I took it upon myself to figure out how to take them apart and paint the unnecessary chrome a black color. After posting the pics and whatnot I became somewhat of a "celebrity" amongst a prominent Tundra forum's community, then it escalated into my friend (a top sales guy at a huge Toyota dealership at the time) recommending me to the GM at his dealership to be put on the vendor list. So from there it got to where people were sending me their headlights in the mail to get painted, as well as me picking up some sweeeeet Tundras at the dealer and taking them to my house to paint the lights and bring it back whenever a customer of theirs wanted that option. Then to the point where I had bought several sets of headlights and did them ahead of time and just sold them to the dealership. The economy fucked that biz up, but it's a good thing because I was starting to not have time for it (it takes about 4 hours for each set of housings!). I'm still on their vendor list though, but I'm not accepting any orders currently.

Whew, so that was one of my hobbies. Other one is restoring old muscle cars with my father. Currently have a 67 Chevy Camaro SS we are restoring to original spec, it's f'in clean as shit and my dad knows his shit - enough to build an engine from nothing but parts and it started up like a new car on the first try, timing was almost spot-on as well ;)

That's about it really for me, not enough time for much right now.

Gawith's Virginia Flake is one of the best to try. Good navy flakes (your local tobaccionist should have a few and be able to recommend some) will be either Virginia or Virginia and Perique (hence va-per, vaper, or VaPer if you didn't already know), and once you have the flake packing figured out (there are quite a few ways to do it) you're set. I'd start with Gawith's Virginia Flake and Escudo Navy Flake, and see what happens from there.

I haven't tried half-and-half, since I'm not as much into burley on its own.

Smoking anything like a Virginia or navy flake will take a bit of work - I have not yet tried any other tobacco that can bite your tongue and go out at the same time. Aromatics can get you into smoking, but Virginias teach you how to smoke. I'd also pick up another pipe for different tobacco types, just to reduce the amount of influence you notice from the cake. If you're going to stick with aromatics, do yourself a favor and get into aromatics from respected English blenders - they'll balance better and not gunk up pipes as much.

Jeff

Sweet deal, thanks Jeff. I also got a new pipe for Christmas so I might just save that for Gawiths VA Flake stuff once I get a chance to pick some up.

Glad to see more gun enthusiasts on here. I'm not WAY into it, but I've got a Mosin Nagant, which is great fun. My brother is deeper into than I am...he's got two Mosin Nagants (short and full barrel), a couple different AK-47s (Bulgarian and Romanian I believe), an Enfield (British WWII rifle), and he just also grabbed a Mauser (German WWII). Fun stuff!

Glenn, I'm with you on the model railroading thing. I LOVE working with little dioramas and models and stuff, although I haven't done any in at least four years... In high school, I think my 16th birthday or something, I had a bunch of dudes spend the night, and for like two weeks prior my friend and I spent a ridiculous amount of time building two castles out of cardboard and tape. They were probably about 4 feet wide by at least three feet high, and they were FAR more elaborate than necessary. Anyway, for a good portion of the overnight, we were all out in the street with them, launching flaming marshmallows with little catapults and stuff, trying to take down the other guy's castle. SO much fun, but of course it ended with people spraying lighter fluid onto raging flames. Haha!

Dudes..I don´t want to show my P99. I don´t know, if it´s legal :) But as a James Bond fan I fuckin´had to get it. Great lookin weapons here, but it is not conceivable, to own something like that in my country. I think, I would love to shoot with it (not on humans) after 8 hour guitar school marathon lessons..haha
