'Viking' describes an era of general Scandinavian history, and includes several different peoples. 'Norse' refers specifically to Norwegian culture (and can be extended, at least in the early period, to Icelandic society, which was settled from Norway and spoke Norse). Bathory's work references a more generalized Viking world. In fact, it references a common mythology that, for the most part, isn't even exclusively Scandinavian, but in fact, part of a broader Germanic pre-Christian tradition. Burzum's music includes many direct references to specifically Norse culture (and language). Enslaved's early music draws its central themes and stories mostly from Icelandic sources that preserve specifically Norse traditions. Bathory's take on 'vikings' includes nothing that could be called 'Norse' to the exclusion of other Scandinavian traditions.
I quite possibly got owned?
