Nostradamus finally leaked.

I agree that Horrowshow was great too. A lot of people didn't like that one...cool that so many here dig Framing, as it is pure class.

I like HS because of the subject, I thought (and still do) the subject was wicked to make a whole album around horror movies (kind like Star One around sci-fi movies) but Barlow vocals make it pretty unerving, until now it's the only Barlow era album I own. I wonder how that would have been sound with Owens.

Dude, interesting you are getting into Iced Earth - I'm totally hooked on Framing Armageddon (again). I was into it when it came out, but now I'm thinking it is the best thing they have ever done. Suddenly I'm sorry that Matt Barlow is coming back.

I'm buying tickets for their show in October...
I'll still support the band but I do wish Tim was in the band...

You and I definitely are in agreement on the superiority of Owens. It's funny too, because I really did kind of like Matt for awhile...especially on that Athens live CD (which you should get if you don't have it, Soundamster). I kind of avoided the Tim Owens stuff for awhile. But when I got Framing Armageddon I was blown away...then he goes and gets kicked out! Now I want HIM back...funny that.

Also, I agree with the questionable choice of going with Yngwie...as far as egomania goes. Tim just can't catch a break. He was in Priest, which, chance of a lifetime or not, was not great for him. They wouldn't let him write, so he made NO money with them. Then he goes to Iced Earth. Now, Jon may or not be an egomaniac, but he's definitely the guy who calls the shots in that band. Then he gets kicked out, and goes with Yngwie, who, as you pointed out, goes through singers like most people go through socks. He really deserves better.

It's freakin' awesome that so may people on this forum like Ripper, he's a fucking great singer. I never understood why so many people flat out hated him. I do love barlow, though and I wouldn't have minded him comming back to Iced Earth after Tim Owens finished "Something Wicked".

Just curious, anyone think Matt's vocals have been a little lackluster since his return to metal? They are still great, but lacking a certain passion present in older material. Which was the reason for Jon Scaffer not having much of a problem with him leaving before completing "The Glorios burden", if I'm not mistaken. Those feelings faded considerably after multiple listens to "Imortal" and "I Walk Alone", though.

Anyways, about "Nostradamus", I have only heard the title song and, whilst still undecided, it does bore me quite a bit. I will definately listen to the whole album, though.

well finishing up my first listen to Nostradamus... pretty fucking dull to be honest... maybe i'll like it more later...

Neither do I, and he did hsi best possible effort in JP I syill blame Tipton for the faults in "Jugulator" and "Demolition". Owens vocals were top notch IMO.

Sixxswine too I believe :D

Right indeed, he has never got a break to be PART of the band hot just some gun for hire, I doubt Yngwie give him enough space but we'll see.

Anyway the discussion made me listen to "Framing Armageddon" one more time yesterday, I do belive too that album could have been even bigger without some fillers but the material rocks, "Nostradamus" on the other hand doesn't move me :(

NP: Ayreon - 'Beneath The Waves'

I've seen this album in used bins around here recently. This album is definitely average, but the whole is better than the sum of its parts tbh. It's definitely a grower

Indeed, this was one of the first recent IE purchases I made (the three disc set). without sounding redundant, i'll simply say that it CLEARLY sits well next to Live After Death and Unleashed in the East as magical live metal albums.

With that said, here's a boot video of Ripper fronting Yngwie. He clearly gives this song a new lease on life. I'm actually anticipating a new Ygnwie album for the first time since the very early 90s....wow!

Of course being a bootleg you can't appreciate the sound in all it's magnitude, and Owens is not Jeff Scott Soto, but definitively I'll See The Light Tonight sounds METAL! with Tim at the helm and that's good enough for me :headbang:. Thanks for sharing this one.

you know what? i change my mind... nostradamus is actually pretty good... i guess i just wasn't in the mood for a two hour long album... not great mind you but still entertaining

Eh, might as well.

15.Point of Entry
16.Nostradamus (Woo! Point of Entry is no longer Priest's worst album!)

I finally had a listen a few weeks ago. I'm not thrilled with it, but I sure don't hate it. Some tracks I just didn't like at all but, I can't say I was bored with the whole album. It's not a bad album to my ears...it's just different.

I like Angel. What's wrong with it?

I like 'Angel' too, I can't stand ' Eulogy'. But is not a good ballad in comparison with 'Last Rose Of Summer' and 'Before The Dawn'. I used as a point of comparison explicilty to emphasize that I found that particular song from "Nostradamus" even weaker.

Speaking of "Angel", the band played it last night (Sunday, 8/10) at the Jones Beach gig. The song sounded monumental live....just awesome and one of the highlights of a great set. Angel is a modern Priest classic.

Priest sounded cystral clear....even Halford's highs sounded cool (although he clearly exerts a lot of energy hitting them).

Speaking of modern Priest classics, the new record really grows on you....very strong album, indeed.

I'm glad to hear the album has grown on you. I won't bother saying it's the greatest thing ever, that'd be too much. But, Priest has always been on their own weird frequency, and if you come into this thing not expecting Pain Killer or Screaming for Vengeance, you might have yourself a good time! I still like it. For some, it's just not their cup of tea, but it has brilliant moments, and overall I don't find it dull like others do.

It's been growing on me slightly. I may end up liking it. Of of my favourite Priest albums is actual sin after sin, possibly because it's the first thing I ever heard by them (a name recognition buy) and because it's just a bit different.
