yup its true, around 10 years ago if you saw a black man on the street, the majority of people would stop and stare, but this is not racism, this was simply due to the fact that the majority of the population has never seen a black person before
nowadays things are very different though, there has been an increased population of black people in major cities such as moscow, and has been a number of black russian celebrities
so i would re-iterate my earlier point that he could be introducing medvedev to some people.
oh and if you would like to know how i stumbled on all this knowledge? i was born in russia and moved to the uk when i was 12

I went to russia on tour with my former hardcore band Tackleberry. every night the venues got attacked by nazis. first evenig was in the ukraine. 30 nazis in front of the club waiting for us. we called the police... only took 2 hours till they showed up.
We collected money for the family of an anti-fascist who got killed by nazis about 6 month before we went on tour. our last concert was in moscow. when we came to the venue our tourmanager who was bassist of the band we toured with came to us and said: "something terrible happened and if you don't want to play we totally can understand. a 19 years old boy got killed like 20 minutes ago just 300 meters away from here and he wanted to see your show tonight."
later I found out that I had a talk to him just 4 days ago when we had our first show in moscow. the attack was planned.
we played the gig and it was crazy. when we came up to the stage we were facing 400 angry and sad hardcore kids. our singer said something and when we hit the first note everyone was going crazy.
you can't imagine the nazi situation in russia. it's crazy. everywhere are banners "russia for russians!". they release adresses, names and pictures of anti fashists on their forums. all hardcore concerts are announced through closed forums. no flyers or posters just because it's too dangerous.

I have a lot of Russian-Jewish friends that tell me how racism has persisted there for years. It is really unfortunate.
Unfortunately I don't think this world will ever, ever be racism free. There is always someone else to blame for your own problems, own suffering, and to fabricate injustices at the hands of another race.
