Occupy Wall Street

This basically sums up my opinion of every article I've read trying to discredit the movement.

I don't understand what that stuck up interviewer if aiming for. Everyone knows the function of money, right? Money pays for a service.

Former Philly cop joins OWS and gets arrested by the NYPD. I'm not familiar with NYC, but it seems to me that since Giuliani was mayor (and now with Bloomberg) the Big Apple has turned into the quintessential police state, surpassing even 1990's L.A.

Nah, most of these protesters are instigators. I lived in New York all my life and I can tell you these people are fucking assholes. Hipsters, liberal yuppies, parasites and the homeless All they need is some validation & attention whether its negative or not.

I got out of nyc at the right time.

I have some sympathy for the movement, but I don't align myself with it, because a lot of things about it seem problematic to me. There is, of course, a big problem with corporatism/crony capitalism over here, but a lot of the views in this movement that I've seen expressed are either vague and platitudinous, stupid, or downright unhinged. Where I live we have our own version of this Occupy thing and I follow its facebook page pretty frequently. There are some reasonable people out there, but I also see a lot of glib talk about the economy by people whose knowledge about it doesn't seem to go much farther beyond what you might find in a Mother Jones article. And then there are all the anarcho-communists and other assorted assholes coming out of the woodwork. Some of these people say blatantly anti-white, racist things (it's usually coming from spoiled, self-loathing whites) and nobody gives a shit. And then there is a lot of anti-capitalist sentiment, which I definitely do not agree with. Go ahead, children, throw out the baby with the bathwater and then come and tell me how much you love the egalitarian dystopia you've foisted on everybody.

Anarcho-communists :erk:

I scanned through an anarcho-communist/leftist board once, and the most popular topics were essentially about how bathrooms were slavery. People should/would be able to shit, fuck, and masturbate anywhere if the man weren't keeping 'em down. I am not exaggerating.

That's exactly why I'm reluctant to call myself an anarchist. Anarcho-capitalist/right-wing anarchists aren't much better. They make Ayn Rand sound like an altruistic philanthropist. I'm not sure how not being able to enslave people or literally hunt unarmed people for sport can be equated with slavery either.

I hope the maker of that is aware that the government is capable of changing its positions and policies.

It seems to me that they're trying to send a message that the government's not in any way going to be the solution.

Not to validate anarcho-communist ideology, but bathrooms as "slavery," while a bit hyperbolic, strikes a nerve.

There's a book titled Toilet, edited by Harvey Molotch, that provides an interesting sociological study of the history of public bathrooms. Part of the study looks at how the design plans and construction of bathrooms in most liberal societies reflect contradictory cultural ideals, most notably security versus privacy.

The postings I read were about how awesome public defecation/sex/masturbation was (not to mention in some extreme cases about how shooting semen onto someone [at random] should be considered a compliment), so I don't think the design or availability of public restrooms was at all the concern.

I'm not surprised as the stuff you found on that board. Pretty much every anarchist I met was a dipshit with no social consciousness. Anarcho-communism sounds like an oxymoron to me. Maybe I just don't understand anarchy, but isn't it impossible to have anarchy while having any kind of system?
