OCTOBER FALLS - d e m o n s AVAILABLE

it doesn't sound THAT MUCH like agalloch people. yes it's vaguely in a similar style but come on... if THIS gets "oh what an agalloch ripoff" responses then i'd be fucking TERRIFIED to unveil my new project on these boards... haha.

that said, mikko, you absolutely NEED to get "pale folklore". i'm 99% sure you will love it if you give it a proper chance.

Many good points here.

At somepoint in every genre or style, people starts to compare new bands to other fairly new bands, not the originators, just like in this case. My main influences lies somewhere on the old Norvegian BM and that's what can be heard, not the later bands, that has been influenced by the same old bands as I am.

And I have nothing against Agalloch, just haven't listened them and most likely in the near future, I will check them out.

I now listened the 3 songs available on The End Records-page and I really failed to see the obvious similarities. And btw, I'm never going to use riffing (strumming) acoustic guitars, clean electric guitars or steel string acoustics.

- Ulver :: Bergtatt
- Behemoth :: Sventevith
- Hades :: Again Shall Be
- Dimmu Borgir :: Stormblåst
- Carpathian Forest :: Bloodlust And Perversions
- Ancient :: Trolltaar
- Satyricon :: The Shadowthrone

There's enough inspiration for me.

of those songs you listened to, "and the great cold death of the earth" is hardly representative of the style people think this song of yours is similar to, "kneel to the cross" is a cover, and "dead winter days" is.. well.. representative of "pale folklore", the BEST ALBUM ever WRITTEN in the HISTORY of the world*

but they do love the clean guitars, agalloch

* split with brave murder day

Well, I'm going to check Pale Folklore out soon, I like clean guitars, but don't want to use them myself.

Hey, someone who has the file, could you post it to the web, since the old link expired. I would do it myself, but don't have it on my computer, thanks in advance.

EDIT - Sorry, tried the older link, so nevermind!

Those two are probably where you're getting the Agalloch comparisions from, since that, plus early Katatonia was their main inspiration for the first album.

The first thing that popped into my head was definately "Bergtatt", not Agalloch.

It may be closer and one was an influence upon the other, but I would sooner believe that all the RC members present at Heathen Crusade spent the weekend sober than that this song was made by someone who had never heard Agalloch... :)

well i'm sorry to have to put it so bluntly but that's just you being completely fucking ignorant to this style of music then

I think it's possible that this wasn't influenced at all by Agalloch, but I'll be damned if this doesn't sound exactly like "I am the Wooden Doors." Maybe Empyrium mixed in there, but I definitely hear that song whether it was an influence or not.

Regardless, really good stuff brother.

NP: October Falls - Triumphant Fires

I have to check I am the Wooden Doors, but I must say, that do some people here really listen this kind of music? I mean some other than Agalloch, as many don't seem to have a clue to the much older bands.

My friend has now played me few A-songs and I must say, that it's somewhat darkmetal and with the style they use (clean electrics, steel strings etc) it hasn't yet impressed me as much as I thought it would based on many comments. This friend of mine is a huge Agalloch fan, but still failed to see any obvious connections between them and OF, but he also listens a lot of other similar stuff.

I've heard maybe half of the albums that you listed and plan on checking those out that I haven't heard. But, I must admit that Agalloch is a rather eclectic band. I mean, even on Pale Folklore it's really widespread and diverse. For example, "Hallways of Enchanted Ebony" is very much Fields of the Nephilim related whereas "Dead Winter Days" is obviously more Katatonia influenced. There is a common theme in most of the music, but the music itself is fluid, dynamic, and ever changing. Maybe that's exactly why I like them so much.

Well, I would recommend you check out Pale Folklore as a whole because with your influences you're bound to find at least something that you'll like. I would also recommend you check out the two main songs from the From Which of this Oak? demo, "The Wilderness" and "This Old Cabin." If you can't get into those, then chances are you'll probably not like anything by them.
