Apparently DNA and RNA components have been confirmed in meteorite samples. Though that only suggests that, like carbon and other elements, these pieces of the puzzle are available elsewhere in the universe, it does not necessitate that life on this planet is dependent on them. Still, a lot of people are very pissed off because they're afraid of truth.

I didn't hear about this. Interesting, any links to articles or something? Edit: Nevermind

I know that basic organic compounds where discovered when comet dust was analyzed. Which makes sense considering they are giant balls of water that receive heat from the sun.

There was also some evidence of the same type of thing happening in our atmosphere with coronal mass ejections. Organic type compounds taking shape.

The articles where on Physorg.com a while ago. I'll find them later as I'm practicing improvising over chord changes now.

Since landing on the moon(making the assumption that we did) the progress in space exploration has been downright awful. I pray I live long enough to see something truly amazing in regards to space exploration, but I sincerely doubt it.

That said, the ice on mars is fucking cool. Man, whatever it takes to up funding for this stuff.

When the Apollo mission landed, they put a mirror that reflects lasers to measure the distance. Scientists still use it today. Trust me, we did land!

Correct, no AC..when this house was built, it simply didn't get that hot here. The house I grew up in here (which was built 10-15 years later) didn't have AC either. Having grown up around here & seeing the climate now, I can vouch that it is indeed warmer now than it used to be.

The lack of humidity is the only redeeming value to days like this, but then again..anything over 100 is just too friggin hot, humid or not.

AND there's ANOTHER fire burning in the Santa Cruz mountains..that's 3 in like 2-3 months. Sheesh.

[Edit: it's the 3rd fire in the SC mountains in just a month, not 2-3 months..egads.]

HERE HERE! *Clap*. I'm still bitter that when I got my drivers license, the effing car can't fly. I'd love to see us figure out the beginnings of terraforming.

I think Mars could definitely be terraformed, but the general consensus has been that it will need a lot more mass to retain an atmosphere. I don't think shipping shit loads of iron is feasible at this point unless we can knock meteors out of orbit with nukes or something.

The thing I most want to see in my lifetime is a probe on Europa to search for life. As strange as it may sound, there hasn't been a day in the last few years where I haven't thought about what could be under there!

by probe you mean badass drill. which would be awesome indeed. and, ship iron to mars? when there's 2 large rocks already circling it? ;)

Kim Stanley Robinson's series on terraforming is probably the most excellent speculative fiction on the subject hands down

I think bad ass drill = even badder ass heated probe that melts through the ice into the ocean and converts into a sub. Very James Bondish.

I didn't even think about crashing Phobos and Deimos into Mars. Not only would that be more efficient, it would be cool as hell to watch.

They'd never do it though unless in an act of desperation. The damage to the surface would be too horrific to the poor scientists. Plus, they might not have enough gravitational pull in for it to work right. Robinson ignored the mass issue and focused on greenhouse factories, a space elevator to one of the moons (Phobos I think) upon which the inside served as both spaceport and mine. The space elvator, if situated on Olympus Mons, wouldn't even have to be that long of a cable. And humankind has already perfected the air pollution of greenhouse gasses necessary to jumpstart plant life. Melt some ice cap and you'd have lakes.

Check out the email we got today. Babelfish is such an endless source of amusement. And oh man, these guys totally used Babelfish.
Hi!
If at you will be a few time, please answer some simple questions. It is very important for me.
Cheerz from Russia!!!

1. You and how for a long time you were formed are presented please, whence?
2. You have let out what releases and what is planned in the future?
3. Whether you play (or someone from your group) in other projects?
4. Tell it is a little, what occurs on your local stage?
5. Tell about people which go on your concerts
6. Name groups which have affected you.
7. Some words to Russia.

p.s.
It not for magazine, only for itself and several friends.
Question number 1 is the best thing I've ever seen. It should be in a Friday 5 sometime.

Russians are awesome. They just kicked Netherland ass and now they're up against either Spain or Italy. I mean they eliminated Sweden so they better fuckin win this thing.

Too bad we only have American and Finnish people here, I guess no-one knows what I'm talking about.

That's Association Football thank you very much. :D European Championship is running finals now. Russia won tonight and they are some happy drunkards right now. I'm betting Germany will win the whole thing, though.
