And they demonize the Christians... Scientology is so much worse: I'm open to debate on the merits of and truthfulness/not of Christianity and other religions, but Scientology is made up in a way that everybody knows for certain- the founder himself said so! So here we go, a business that's out to get people. Can I think of anything worse? Not even close.

Yeah, the "hipper solos" line was classic:lol:. I've heard some nasty stories about Chick from people who have worked with him or his band members. I think Scott's the only one with the balls to speak publicy about it, but even he (as noted in the end of that second quote) has come to some sort of terms with Chick and the situation in general. I can't say Chick really bothers me...he does well keeping his outspokeness out of the public eye and has never come on too strong in his music (I haven't played his stuff backwards to check for subliminal messages)...so despite the things I've heard, I can overlook it all in lieu of the music he's made regardless of how adamantly opposed I am to scientology.

Same here, I still am gonna buy 'To The Stars' despite the scientology themes, its instrumental, and incredible music at that, so I'm not really worried about it... He's a fantastic musician, as are everyone else in his bands...

Even Return To Forever was names after a Scientology reference. I guess a lot of his songs names follow suite.

That's what's so mind boggling. I mean L. Ron, their prophet, has gone on the record as saying that he wanted to start a religion to make money. Lord Xenu, Thetans, Spacehips shaped like 747's, other galaxies running out of room for creatures, so they send them to Earth, in another galaxy.

Fucking hell people are so unbelievably stupid and gullible.

Everyone needs something to believe in. I'm not supporting nor damning it. I've made my views on ALL religion perfectly clear.

My stance on that though is, a lot of religions, nobody really knows if they're right or wrong. With Scientology, you know from the start (if you do -any- homework) that it's false. So why believe in it?

I guess that's true, however I can't help but think people just enjoy believing in 'strange' things because it's interesting to do so. If you have ever watched a show when they interviewed a person about alien abduction and they say something like "Oh, the aliens are curious. They just want to learn", it seems like that is just a projection of what a person finds 'interesting' and wishes where true, regardless if it is or not (Most likely not). If that makes sense. Like new age crap such as crystal healing, astrology etc etc. Human emotions play the biggest part in why people do what they do.

I just wish people would learn some critical thinking skills and apply them. It's amazing what thinking things through can do for you.

No no, i agree. In fact, I find Scientology to be pretty scary and sickening. Yes, i agree that things like Scientology, New Age religions, things up those alleys are completely people just desperately grasping for something. I mean, I'll admit that i find a lot of supernatural things (and i include religious "miracles" in this category... not to undermine anyone's beliefs, just sayin') incredibly interesting, the stories that are told and are obviously bullshit, there's always that yearning in the back of my mind of "if only that were true..." That said, I don't believe in it just in hopes to make it true.

Do I believe in other forms of life on other planets? I do, only because to me, in a universe as large as ours with as many galaxies, solar systems, planets, etc, it would be illogical to go against the odds that at least ONE other planet must have something at some point. Maybe not now, but in the history of the universe or the future of the universe, I think there has/is/will be other intelligent life. That doesn't mean i believe they're scooping up our rednecks and checking out their cornholes just for giggles. I mean, poo is funny to everyone, probably even aliens, but i just don't buy it. But i also don't buy that we're "alone", because that makes us special in the entire universe that we were given life, and to me that just makes absolutely no sense.

New Age stuff, to me, is the worst. People literally praying on other folks who may be disillusioned by religion and are looking for something to hold on to, or are incredibly sick and are looking for anything that will help them. i don't know if it's necessarily as malicious in the intent that I believe Scientology is, but it's still a nasty thing. I mean, keep a crystal as a good luck charm, fuckin' awesome, but don't mistake any upturns in health as a byproduct of carrying your crystal that was bathed in a stone bath under the third full moon of the summer solstace or some bullshit.

All of this is completely illogical and frankly, i find it scary and sad that so many people buy into it. Again, everyone needs something to believe in, and I honestly feel sorry for the folks who have to resort in this to feel fulfilled. Believe in your own fuckin' self and you don't need this stuff. The problem with that is that it takes a lot of confidence and energy, plus it means you have to be solely responsible for your actions. Not many people are willing to do that.

I dont even know what scientology is ??? They didnt have that on the planet I came from...

Anyhow, I just found out this week that the origional lineup of Return to Forever is back together for a tour and playing in NYC on the 8th or 9th, wish I had known earlier, they run hand in hand with Mahavishnu for the rootes of serious fusion.

For some reason alot of those guys went space cadet with spiritual stuff, Maclaughlin, Santana, I actually didnt know Corea was, cant say Im surprised. I think they did alot of good acid when they were young and impressionable. Like the native americans and their mescalin (sp). But what the heck you have a portion of the metal community that wants to bring back goat sacrifice and praise demonic attitudes, its all nuts, people are fucking nuts.

Excellent post that warrants a lot of discussion!

That's the thing, a lot of people wish these things where true. Even going to extent of convincing themselves it happened. Which is why I am beyond weary and skeptical when people make extraordinary claims like that.

I think it would be cool if our universe was suspended in some sort of higher dimensional space, but I don't believe it to be true just because it's fun to think about. The difference is, my interest will be backed or disproved by evidence in a few weeks. W00t!

I know this isn't very 'scientific' of me, but I dismiss alien stories right off of the bat for a few reasons. One, obviously it will take more than a video that could have been easily faked using modern technology. No body's, no ship, no technology = bullshit. Second of all, people ascribe human features and characteristics, such as a humanoid body with humanoid features and emotions associated with people such as malice and curiosity. If lifeforms evolved and developed else wear in the cosmos, they will not have human attributes. A dolphin is smart in some sense, but it has a completely different kind of consciousness with a completely different 'mindset' than that of a human or human ancestors. If a dolphin species was given time and selective pressure to develop a deeper conscious awareness, it would not resemble that of a human at all, or very little. I would expect the same from any lifeform that evolved under different mechanisms with different genetic properties.

I have an aunt who has been in pretty bad financial shape and has had horrible family issues for years. She spends every free penny of what she makes on crystals under the assumption that they have mystical good luck properties. How does one rationalize the fact that they are piss broke and the crystals have done nothing to help? I guess you don't. She also seriously believes in faeries. True story.

I couldn't agree more, nor could I have said it better myself.
