Official Off Topic Thread

Thankfully this is the last weekend in September, because that theater gig was doing is finally over with. Considering I've got a pretty important recital in less than two months, it'll be nice to have weekends again:p

Mine also...

So anyway, today our music store got held up... Apparently some *insert nasty name here* held a knife at my Grandpa, who was upstairs in the shop where I usually am, and took off with money from the register... My Uncle chased him down once the knife was away, and he and a legendary truck driver held him down until the cops arrived thanks to another guy who called them as soon as he saw what was happening... So at least the guy got caught. Apparently he had a big knife and a bloody syringe in his bag as well...

Holy shit! Sorry to hear that, Dan. I hope your grandpa is OK. I have to commend you for not bashing his face into a bloody pulp. The fact that he was strung out on heroin (most likely) would have made me all the more angrier!

Well that's the crazy part, I would've been there, except that it was my first day off work in a couple of months...

My Grandpa was fine, thankfully, and my Uncle only got a cut lip and skinned knees stopping the guy, but it could've gone much worse...

There were some stupid idiots who were just standing there abusing my Uncle and the truckie for apprehending the guy, how ridiculous is that? I've got a few things I'd like to point out to them though...

Civil arrest is for the fucking win! Your uncle and the trucker guy should be awarded with medals. And the junkie robber should be executed. Or get his hands chopped off.

Good Lord Dan, Glad to hear everything is ok, AND that you caught the guy.
I have ZERO, and I mean ZERO tolerance for people like that. Had it been my shop in the states, he most likely would have been killed.

I would actually bet that, had it been done over here, he would have been dead.

Now all you have to do is make sure he is locked up for the rest of his life. It would be such a kick in the balls if they just let him off the hook with probation.

Damn...glad to hear that situation turned out so much better than it could have. It's too bad the guy didn't find himself in the middle of some oncoming traffic when running from your uncle.

Yes, a head-on with a packed articulated T500 (a bus here in Adelaide) would have been good. Hope your grandpa and uncle are ok, Dan.

If by mediocre you mean talented, top of the genre (prog/power/symphonic), with an amazing vocalist, then I agree with you ;)

Alright Ken...I knew I wasn't crazy...in this thread about Serenity (8th post down) on the ProgPower forum, you say, and I quote..."I love this band" :)

They're pretty damn good.. Although, I wouldn't call them "generic". But they're nothing new... For instance: Kamelot

1. of, applicable to, or referring to all the members of a genus, class, group, or kind; general.

I'm not saying they're bad I'm just saying they're not standing out hence the generic. They're very generic. They don't contribute anything new to the genre. How are they then avoiding being generic?

Generic != bad, but power metal = (in general) pretty bad. I'd say Serenity is somewhere in there, with a few good songs, one very good song ("From where the dark is born") and the rest pretty damn meh.

Personally I think Therion are top of the genre (and they're a band worthy of the "/symphonic" suffix to their "power" label). But that has nothing to do with this. I just wanted to add that.

*PERSONAL OPINION*. I just wanted to add that too. I know people hate when people add "umg just my opinion lols" but I know there are people who hate people who think they are stating facts as well.
