Blood Mountain is my favourite. And I severely disagree with Kenneth about The Hunter being bad, it's a really solid album. Not quite as deep as their albums usually are, but catchy and fun.

It's the "fun" part that I think makes it suck. Too much of a comedy album, and not enough well-written music. It's a joke - literally. I've no time for that sort of thing.

I don't really like comedy in my music either.

I haven't heard Weather Systems by Anathema yet, but the new RPWL has a great chance of remaining in my top 5 of 2012 by the end of the year! Fantastic album.

Also, Dark Suns' new album "Orange" is fantastic (I finally got my copy :)). It sounds very authentic... it's very strange (notes, progressions, arrangements), and I get the feeling that not many bands could have pulled off an album like this. It took me a couple of listens to fully realize its greatness. Not for everybody. (I know this album may be considered a 2011 release, but it was not avail. for me to buy until 2012... so uhh... 2012 release, dammit!)

From what I'm hearing about Weather Systems, it will probably make it to my top 5 as well! Good year so far!

My main problem with Mastodon is that it's a band with three average vocalists and not a single strong one. The Hunter sounded like easy listening music so I ignored it completely. Some of the old stuff is alright. ^I'll try check those two albums. Sounds alright.

I think Mastodon's vocals are cool for what the band does. It's the effect that their voices have on the music that intrigues me. Very strange and weird sounding, almost like an awkward kind of feeling. I mean it's not great for every song, but for the ones I like, the usually vocals contribute at least a little. That's just me though.

You do realize how incredibly smug and snobby you sound right there, right?

I realize that I like good music. When have I ever denied being smug and snobby? I've no time for crappy music so I don't listen to it or rationalize excuses for why I should. The Hunter is a waste of time. Previous releases are varyingly good though.

I just can't get into Mastodon. I listened to Leviathan and Crack the Skye, but nothing really stood out to me. Oh well.

They (Mastodon) came to my country as Metallica´s openers. A serious mistake (don´t know exactly who´s to blame though), because all the "good" sound was reserved to Metallica, so they sounded really awful. They were an unknown band to me then, but after that day I actually met some guys who went to that concert just for them. I´m not into them nowadays, Mastodon keeps being an unknow band to me, but I now think they didn´t deserved to be treated like that.

Oh third world´s countries, when we will learn...

I just don't see how being smug/snobby can be a good thing.
Any particular reason why The Hunter is a waste of time? You haven't really given a real case as to why the Hunter is a waste of time.
You say you realize that you like good music, but how do you define "Good" in a way that's true for everyone? You seem much more focused on your opinion being better than everyone else's than the idea that you could possibly be wrong.

Shit, now I know what it was like for other people dealing with me on Kamelot's forum for the past 6 years.

The Hunter is a waste of time because it is a silly album of joke songs. It is near the bottom of the list of albums that were released recently. So it is a waste of time to listen to it instead of something far better. I've already said this, so you just didn't read.

Good is never true for everyone. It's true for me. It's ridiculous to define what is appealing to others. Of course I'm focused on my own opinion, it's the only opinion that matters to me. There's no right or wrong. This isn't an internet argument :err:

Being a snob (read connoisseur ) means I don't waste my time with less than excellent stuff. I see nothing wrong with that.

That's not enough. Why are they jokes? I think the songs are great, I don't really see much to laugh at. They wrote an album on the fly as they were recording it. I find that awesome, and I find the album awesome for what it is; an album that was written as it was recorded.

I don't agree that connoisseur is synonymous to snob. You can be a connoisseur of something and still be modest and willing to listen to what other people have to say. There is a lot to learn from listening to people, whether they agree with you or not.

I agree with you about two of them, but Brent Hinds has a fuckton of personality in his voice and sounds great. Also, I think even though two of the singers are quite run of the mill, using three people fits their music and adds to it.

No. The album doesn't take itself absolutely seriously, but it's far from a joke. But even if it was, I still wouldn't like your argument. One of the beautiful things about music is it can convey all sorts of vibes. Requiring all of what you listen to to be 100% serious is no better than, for example, only listening to heavy music.

Of course I'm focused on my own opinion, it's the only opinion that matters to me.

Not really any of my business, but I don't think it should be. Trying to see things through the eyes of other people will often give you perspective that will help in appreciating things you couldn't appreciate at first. A lot of things aren't simply good or bad, music least of all.

True. Not sure why you'd bother come to a discussion board if your opinion is the only one that mattered to you. Social media would be more suitable, there you can stick to sharing your opinion all day there. Sucks to see forums paling so much though, freaking facebook keeps taking over.

I'm not on any social media. I come here because occasionally there are interesting conversations. And Harris really should stop being so impressionable and looking for validation.

Cue the community to jump on me for that comment in 5...4...3...

What was this madness about the latest OSI album not being all that good? I finally got my hands on it and found it to be totally awesome. Also, I'd like to retract my previous comment about For Nothing being quite good, since it's a lot more than that. True mininimalistic beauty in a delightful, Ki-esque manner.

And let's not forget Invisible Men. Goddamn Insivible Men.

The new Sonata Arctica sucks so much it has created a black hole.
Even those shitty UM-forum spamming power metal bands are better than this garbage.
I'm angry.
