I think in a few southern U.S. states you can be 18 and purchase beer, no hard liquor though. Law might have been changed by now, not really sure.

I started drinking legally when I was 15... its the best, most healthiest way IMO.
that way, you grow up with the idea that beer is "not a big deal"
and you never abuse alcohol.
