Bands that people seem to have forgotten!

Buried Beneath
Baphomet
Phantasm
Mythic
..... I will let you finish this list.

:kickass:

Cancer kicked ass as well.

Seems most of this board are deathmetal newbies. Nobody here listened to deathmetal in the mid-late 80's?!

:guh:

You should check out the band Infester also if you haven't. Album came out in '94 I beleive, and was one of Moribund Records first acts (guy also runs Nuclear Blast USA). Kickin ass death with touches of doom/grind.

I didnt think Cancer was anything great.Heres my favorite Death/Grind bands:

1.Deicide
2.Cannibal Corpse
3.Malevolent Creation
4.Napalm Death
5.Dying Fetus
6.Bolt Thrower
7Benediction
8.Six Feet Under
9.Morbid Angel
10.Sinister
11.Obituary
12.Divine Empire
13.Death
14.Hate Eternal
15.Extreme Noise Terror
16.Lock up

forgotten dm bands?

Devoid (remembered mainly for giving Carcass a guitarist) brought out one LP "Blackened Empire"...
Cerebral Fix, Master, Baphomet (Dead shall inherit!!!).... wow they're all on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember half the bands I listened to/went to see back in the day.... gonna have to dig out some dusty cassettes and get back with this one :D

Well, it sounds older for a start :D but seriously, it's like the only outside influence would have been grind, there would be few thrashy bits (after all, death was gonna kill thrash), and black metal didn't really exist as such, and so had no influence on it.

I hate to sound like a black metaller but it was more "true" lol....

Benediction!

"Subconscious Terror" (with Napalm Death's Barney on vocals) is one of my all time favourite DM albums.
I liked "The Great Leveller" too, "Vision in the Shroud" is astounding!

Haven't heard anything by them except those 2 LPs tho.
Did they continue in the same vein?

My favourite BENEDICTION recordings are "Subconcious Terror", "The Grand Leveller" and "Transcend The Rubicon". After those 3 albums they changed style a bit with "The Dreams You Dread" and although that album and the following albums are solid Death Metal they don´t really compare in brilliance to the early 3.

Early death metal was the greatest. Wayy better than this melodic/Gothenburg style death metal with the likes of Arch Enemy and Soilwork and such.. People still respect Morbid Angel as the greatest in death metal but not Obituary as much anymore. They fucking owned. Slow, primal, sick death metal.

Mythic
Atheist
Pestilence
Asphyx
Incubus(The metal one.)
Nocturnus
Gorefest
Dismember
Resurrection
Sinister(Still around but people act like they disbanded.)
Cancer

There are others I could name, but then I'd be typing forever, hehe.

I just posted something about this on the other side, but I'll ask here too.....
I'm not a death metal die hard, but I do enjoy it once in awhile and I always considered Grave as my favorite. I never hear anyone talk about them though. Are they written off by true death metalers? Why are they never talked about?
