this is actually a serious thread. i think that lots of people don't connect alexander's leaving the band back in 03 (i believe) to the loss of all our favorite neoclassical and powermetal sounds in bodom. plus, roope is from a death metal band and all. i feel like, alexi is the 80's part of the band, alexander was the neo-classical part (ignore warmen that's just not that well written or catchy), and now instead of alexander the neoclassical part we have roope the death metal part. so it's sorta like alexi 80's meets death metal instead of powermetal. you know alexander actually wrote a lot of the leads on something wild. post your thoughts on this.

What are you talking about?? I don't agree with you at all... Roope is an all around better musician, and much more neo-classical than Alexander. Have you ever listened to Sinergy??

Also, Janne's parts are totally catchy and well written... And Alexi never inteneded CoB to be powermetal at all... More like "punk rock from hell"

Sorry man, listen to more CoB... Or read a few interviews.

for once i agree with something you said.

guys guys. being a good musician has nothing to do with a bands sound... sinergy doesn't sound like something wild, champ. just consider what i said. i've listened to plenty of bodom, plenty of sinergy, and plenty of warmen. i didn't mean janne's parts, i meant his side-project (which is mind blowing, but not that memorable...)

and i wasn't talking about what alexi INTENDED cob to be, just because there's a main writer doesn't mean the band has no influence. oh, and it's more power-metal than it is punk rock from hell. man.

I beleive that talent plays no role whatsoever in a successful band, it's all 100% attitude. A band has to get along to be successful. Alexander didn't feel comfortable with touring so he quit, Alexi completely understood that if he kept touring, he could not enjoy himself, which would make his performances suck.

alexander wrote pretty much both bed of razors and lil bloodred riding hood and he was on hcdr, so i;m pretty sure it wasnt him leaving that changed the sound. its all alexi and the band listening to metalcore and shitty music.

well ive actualy toyed with that idea myself, about alexander's replacement by Roope being the cause of the change in music style. Maybe alexander was the one keeping alive the neo-classical, melodic and technical aspect of their music alive. Maybe he really left cuz he was being pressured to do music he dint wanna (i.e AYDY?).

I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory a bit but maybe...

yeah he left when they started changing the way they dressed, the way they acted and the way they sounded. i still kinda think he left cause they started dressing in camo and shit instead of all black and the music started getting less and less like he liked it and not melodic and neoclassical and the whole attitude changed so he decided to leave and made up a story :hypno:

i always thought stone was kinda death metal. i didn't mean like... nile death metal, but you know. moreso than power-metal. anyway, bedofrazors666, you and your stupid ass handle can suck my cock, get off my thread.

Alexi writes 99% of Bodom's shit anyway, even Janne's keyboard melodies I think. Roope is pretty much a session player in COB and has no more influence on COB than Alexander did. The decline in Bodom's music is entirely because of Alexi.

DING DING! We have a winner!

I'm surprised that all the musicians in bodom put up with Alexi writing everything. I mean they're all great musicians, it seems like they would get fed up with only playing someone elses material.. But i guess thats why Janne created Warmen.

I was just going to say "Janne has warmen!" but you mentioned it at the very end. I absolutely love Warmen and I really wish Janne got to write his own keyboard melodies for CoB. I wonder how much longer he will put up with it for?

anyway, warman is a badass guy, and i think if they got a singer who WASN'T kim goss they could be a decent power-metal group (warmen) but ATM it's way too keyboard oriented (don't get me wrong i play the keyboard myself but the layering is too over the top). yeah. i'll agree that it was probably mainly alexi's fault and that doesn't bug me too much since i still like bodom, but all i'm saying is that you might wanna look into it. also, playing stuff the lead guitarist and writer writes isn't really like "playing someone elses material" i mean that's what it is literally but i'm sure that they all have contributions and feedback, even if they don't come up with the main riff or hook. alexander, once again, wrote a bunch of riffs on SW (including leads on deadnight warrior, i believe) so anyway. yep.
