This was actually the first thing that came to mind. Not my favorite metal album, but it kicks ass, is plenty long, and gives you good old and later Maiden.

Naa man, the raw emotion which is exhuded on Hammerheart gets me every single time. Absolutely timeless, every second of it.

I'd pick Opeth's Still Life, Borknagar's Empiricism or Vintersorg's Cosmic Genesis. I think I have to refuse to narrow it down anymore than that, but I'll get back to you if I ever can, though I presently lean towards Opeth. I have a lot of albums that are really excellent depending on the mood I'm in, but I think these three are just overall incredible. If you want a straight answer, just go with Opeth.
