I told the band that I'm not going to make them sound like Joey Sturgis but I think it's pretty usual for young bands to ask if the AE is able to pull of a mix in the style of "insert famous AE-name here"-
The thing is, if bands reference to a joey mix to me, I always ask them: do you want programmed drums, amp-simulations and want to sound like everyone else, or do you want to use real gear, and have your OWN sound.
9 out of 10 choose option two.

I don't think that Joey sounds like anyone else, I can't get a mix to sound like him. his way of producing and using synth is pretty clever I would say ... no matter if you like it or not.
Sure he puts out great stuff. But all his productions are about beeing ÜBER-Tight.
Its not that each element sounds anywhere stellar but everything together has just such an impact because of the perfectly tightness.
And he is realy clever with sound-FX and stuff like that.
Vocals always on top.
Thats why I tell the bands, programmed drums, because I only tracked 2 drummers in 3 years who could play shit like that (with only a little help of beat-detective)
And dont get me started with guitars.
To get the guitars that tight and perfectly in tune you must track like only 2-4 songs a day. Note after Note.
