I was just looking at the stats on the Metal-Archives website and here is the top 10 list for "Number of Reviews".

1. Iron Maiden 296
2. Metallica 232
3. Judas Priest 168
4. Iced Earth 160
5. Megadeth 136
6. Slayer (US) 129
7. Black Sabbath 120
8. Opeth 104 :worship:
9. Blind Guardian 104
10. In Flames 101

Just thought it was a smidgeon interesting. It's kind of surprising that Opeth is just right behind all the very well known bands like Preist, Maiden, and Sabbath. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. :dopey:

Yeah, but about half of the well-written reviews use the word "suck" a lot.

Metal-archives is a wonderful resource for metal information and good reivews (provided you pay attention to the right people), as well as drunken Georgians singing the safety dance and guys who look like Jesus trapped on a desert island. And of course, THE METAL INQUISITION.

that is really cool. like you said, its cool to see them up there with all those big names. hopefully this will get them some more exposure. damn i see big things for opeth in the future... i always think maybe they will stay underground though cause i dont think the mainstream will ever truly be able to appreciate them

im on drugs so i ramble right now

It's interesting how many people who reviewed Opeth on that site weren't impressed at all. Must be some of the only negative reviews of Opeth I've ever read. If anyone can point me to any more.. I'd be interested.

Section of a review of bwp

"Well, there's one song dissected bit by bit. And it just does not hold up under analysis. It is just not INTERESTING. The rest of the album is just like that. It kinda sits there. This is not HEAVY FUCKING METAL the way it is supposed to be played - nothing comes out and screams "On your knees!! I want you on your knees!" like metal is supposed to do. Yes, I subscribe to some pretty old-fashioned metal ideas, that metal is supposed to be impressive and majestic and arouse me into battle frenzy. Not this."

whoever said that it all has to do with the people you listen to is right....the people that give opeth bad reviews just don't know what opeth is about.

Though that is not an excerpt from my review, what, I pray you, is Opeth about?

opeth is about feeling i guess.

That sounds like something someone would say about Atreyu as he sat in the corner and cut his wrists.

Name three emotions that Opeth explores.

hold up hold up hold up.

so, remind me, what do you have against opeth? i'm serious, if you give a decent explanation other than "iono, they just suck" or "fr007 51ng1ngzz!" that has some backing then there's no reason people should hound you.

although why would you post here if you hate the band? you don't see me posting in the My Dying Bride forum just to talk about how much i hate My Dying Bride.
