ihsahn was responsible for helping opeth get their first record deal. he managed to fit several seconds of the guys onto a demo tape he submitted and they were signed from those few seconds. in case you didn't know, that is
if you were being sarcastic, however, you suck

I didn't know what, where did you learn this from?

Erika: But you guys had a record deal without even cutting a demo, is that correct?

Mikael: Yeah, because our first label was UK based label called Candlelight Records, still running you know. [I agree] And at the time we didn’t have any demos or anything but we recorded rehearsal tapes. And there was a band on Candlelight records called Emperor, they had a few albums. The guitar player made compilation tapes of unsigned bands that he found good, ya know. He squeezed in ten seconds of an Opeth rehearsal tape just at the end of the tape and we were the only band from that cassette tape who got signed. [Chuckles]
of course, the way he answered the question, he could've been referring to samoth, but i do believe it was ihsahn in this case.
plus, if you look at the credits in orchid, they give special thanks to ihsahn.

i suck? for asking a question? what a prick.

I wonder if Mike sings the whole song just as Garm did on "Homecoming" from the previous Ihsahn album. That would be cool. It would be even cooler if he performs both clean vocals and growls.

Cool, thanks for the info.

I actually imagined that he would be doing a whole song. It wouldn't surprise me. Guess we'll have to wait until we're told or until the album comes out!

I didn't mind the drum sound on the Adversary; I know a lot of people disliked it, but I thought it suited.
As for Ihsahn's other recent work, everyone should check out Peccatum's 'Lost in Reverie' (their last album excluding 'The Moribund People' which was an EP), and if you don't mind traditional folk music, try Hardingrock's 'Grimen'.
Ihsahn's wife Ihriel (aka: Heidi Tveitan) appears on both and she is also fantastic; also check out her solo project Star of Ash (releasing their second album next month).
(PS: I know there are a lot of Peccatum-haters out there, but at least check out Lost in Reverie, it really is an excellent record).

They are kindred spirits in many respects. Ihsahn's been wanting to work with Mike for a long while, and respect goes both ways. The song is, in fact, incredible!
