Opeth - Ghost Reveries

I'm not a fan of Opeth, but I'm really glad that they got 35 on the charts. That's a big step for metal.

Also, The Grand Conjuration is a good song (except for the "let's make a riff out of alternate picking" that they seem to put in every song for NO reason. And his clean vocals really don't do it for me... better clean vocals would make me like it more) but everything else I've heard still isn't me.

It's also good to see Mikael admitting that he wants more people to hear their music and if that means editing the song and making a video, then so be it!

Of course, the outcry from the metal scene is expected.

And I find it hilarious how the Opeth fanboys, who at one stage would scream SELLOUT about Metallica for doing the exact same thing, are now sticking up for their beloved Opeth. :D

I never did like Tool, and never understood why others liked them. At the risk of sounding like an old man, it's all just noise to me.

It's all too samey for me. I put Opeth and Tool in the same group actually - one or two things I like, but overall, bores the shit through me. Sounds so damn pretentious, almost in a "I can be technical, therefore my music is far more intellectual" type way.

I've never seen Opeth as being like that. They just do their own thing. There are other more technical bands around. They don't take themselves too seriously - see 'em live and you'll see that.

I used to really like Tool, but then they got popular and that took all the fun out of it. :) I still like them, but don't listen to them much.

Agreed about Opeth Winmar.
They aren't like that at all. I love Dream Theater, but can admit they are more like that then Opeth are.

As for Mikaels clean vocals.. I think he is an amzing vocalists in both styles. Listen to his clean vocals in Harlequin Forest. Awesome stuff. Just because he isnt a typical metal high pitched wailer doesn't mean he dont have a top clean voice.

That is why a lot of Tool and Opeth (and Dream Theater, etc) fans shit me, but the music itself doesn't make me dislike the bands for that reason.

I have to be in the mood to listen to Tool, don't just chuck them on any old day, but they are awesome when you are in the mood for it. I went off of them for a while and never got into Lateralus at all, but gave it a listen after I got with my current girlfriend (because she has it), and came to be a fan again.
