Opeth to incorporate keyboard in their forthcoming releases

Should be cool. I've always felt they do cool things when they use other instruments such as in "Epilougue" and "Shilouette". I think some keyboards will work well seince the album sposed to be more "mellow".

the only key instrument i'd want on the heavy disc is organic piano, a la leper affininty.

as far as i'm concerned, the second disc can have as much mellotron as it wants.

as for me, if the keyboard is used as a medium to created atmosphere within the songs...hell yeah!

I hope it's not too synthy though. Otherwise, it should be good.

Agreed. Synth keyboards everywhere would not be cool (think power metal...). One thing I have always liked about Opeth was how they use longer, slower guitar notes in the background INSTEAD of keyboards. Creates a way cooler sound, IMO.

akerfeldt always said he didn't want synths in opeth, but he always said he liked the sound of a grand piano. i'm sure its more piano-style stuff. do you really think that wilson is there recording COF style keyboards? i don't think so.

Keys could work out well in parts. I do hope its just piano though, and maybe a very small portion of dark atmospheric stuff (but only right in the background).. could work really well to provide some different feels on the clean album.

Good. Akerfeldt needs to incorporate new things into his writing style. We've got five albums of him mildly improving with each, now it's time for him to go for something a bit different.

I'm glad he's writing something different (the mellow album). So, even if these new albums aren't great, it could be part of the equation to a better band down the road.

opeth are always ok, but seems nobody has read well:

"SW has recently been in Sweden co-producing and playing keyboards on two new albums by Opeth. One of these albums is extreme progressive metal in the vein of last year's "Blackwtare Park", while the other is a mellotron soaked album featuring only melodic vocals and not a metal riff in site. The heavy album will be issued later this year, with the mellow album to follow in early 2003 (both on Music For Nations)."

anyone noticed the word "mellotron"?????????? so, i think opeth will fill in keys without losing the 70's feeling that surrounds their music. someone has a common conception of the words synth\keyboards, but we should know that when we talk about opeth we talk about crashing common barriers in music's world.

i'm pretty 100% sure that opeth will stay opeth, and no-one could say the contrary when in march 2003 the mellow album will hit the scene.

at last, notice how "blackwater park" is written... eheh...
