Well then it's just a matter of opinion, because frankly, I hate all thoes bands. :-D OK not HATE, but I don't like them. It's weird though, I play the piano, it's my life. I dunno why I can't stand keys.

thats sad to hear. maybe someday youll be more open minded towards the keys. also most of the time janne(cob) uses string synthes, so either you dont have a good ear or you dont like guitar as well or maybe just any sting instrument. :Spin:

I don't think it has anything to do with being closed minded, i just don't like keyboards (or synths or whatnot), it's not like i didn't give them a chance or that i insult the peoples skill, i just don't like the way the go with (or in my opinion against) the music.

Also, i have a good ear, but i haven't exactly trained it to differentiate between keyboards or synths, in fact i don't know much of anything about them, and i don't care to know anything about them or the different kinds, because i don't like them.

I love guitar, i don't see what that has to do with the keyboards...

I think keyboards shouldn't be used in extreme metal. It's about being raw dammit, keys aren't raw. (I'm not counting black metal btw)

Well, you do have a point. I suppose I shouldn't have said Barker was talentless. It takes talent to learn a skill(playing the drums). I don't understand where the talent is in blastbeating though. Nearly every Death Metal and Black Metal band I hear incorpates ridiculous drumming into every song, usually the entire length of it. I don't play an instrument, but I don't see the talent in pounding away at the drums like a child who is just having his/her first orgasm. I haven't really heard much else from Barker but his absurd drumming tendencies. No amount of riffs or melodies could make a song sound even remotely good with a bunch of smashing in the background. Opeth just wouldn't be Opeth. They would be leveled off to a mediocre band with a trendwhore passion of trying to be as agressive as possible. I seriously think there is a race out there---"How many hits per second can you accomplish?"

Well, that's my ignorant take and my 2 cents.

Emperor had keys and blastbeats and they still are one of my three favorite bands . Vintersorg uses keys as Arcturus and they they rock . Though I agree Taake dosen't need any key for exemple ( except on their PartIV of Bioergvin lol )
