im relativily new to opeth, can you describe their overall sound, and is BWP worth buying? thanks

well although he may sound stupid (what with the Gary Coleman picture) he has a good point, i cant say any of the albums are too similar and you will get something different from Morningrise than BWP for example, but theres one thing you can expect, and thats a great album whichever you get, Mikael promises however to release a ''crap'' album soon...

Opeth has a unique sound reminiscent of Progressive Deathmetal, I like it because it's so musically pleasing and emotional!

well well well. What can I say. An Opeth newbie. Welcome too years, I hope, of listening pleasure.
In all honesty, since finding Opeth 7 years ago, I've not found a better overall metal band. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough, but why change something thats not broke.
Yes BWP is worth getting...and like I've said before, buy all their albums.
I recommend a daily dose of Opeth to cure those nu-metal ailments.

yea, all their albums are definetly worth buying...BWP is a great album to start with, and it is my favourite album...their songs average at about 10 mins so be patient...and if you're a death metal extremist than don't even think about trying opeth coz they're quite progressive
@ Requiem...fine point, man.SLAYER85, what I suggest you do is go to MP3.com or Audio Galaxy and download a few songs from Blackwater Park. True, asking the Opeth forum if we think you should check out Opeth is like asking a drowning man if he could use a hand. We like it. ALOT. So, go hear some for yourself. The songs are long and offer much diversity. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Yeah...I started with Blackwater Park as well. I didn't think I'd like the older albums, but now I realize that they're all amazing. Still Life is probably my favorite right now, but that's highly subject to change (getting more into Morningrise..)
