I think both versions have their qualities. The 1st (shitty) mix sounded bare bones, garage type band (unlike the unlistenable Metallica shit so don't even go there). I know the mix went flat, right across the board and nothing really stuck out, but it was kind of interesting. If the different instruments stuck out, I'd dig the 1st mix better. It was raw, just as the sounds felt!
The 2nd version of course sounded better, you could actually pick out the instruments, etc... and I heard some riffs that I never heard in the 1st, and I'd listened to the 1st hundreds of times.
I would have to agree with 777, the LOW end on a few parts was way out of line.
