Orphaned Land and Coolness!

:D Haha! Mostly Helloween is considered to be the first power metal band, though... I just love them. I don't listen to metal-only so it doesn't mind me.

Iced Earth is power mostly because of the heavy use of Matts vocals, instead of a normal thrash metal vocal, and that the drums are alot more power than thrash. Atleast some of the main things, but mostly they're considered thrashpower, so it's not like any of us are mistaken here.

But I do agree with you on Rhapsody. Newer songs of them isn't that metal, anyhow, they've changed their name to Rhapsody of Fire - how cheesy is that?! :p

Savatage are my No. 1 mainly because Zak Stevens is one of my absolute fave metal SINGERS ever, his voice is simply amazing and obviously I'm also a big fan of Circle II Circle.
As for Hammerfall, well, while I think this band is ridiculous beyond belief, though I went to see vocalist Joacim Caans (sp?) solo once and was actually quite surprised to find myself enjoying the gig...

I don't take Hammerfall seriously at all, but for that happy power metal sound, they actually sound pretty heavy metal. So I really like them.
I like Stratovarius because they have a bit of a prog sound and Timo Tolki can shred. I just get kind of sick at Kotipelto's vocals. My favorite album from them is Fright Night.

Zakk Stevens kicks ass but I like Jon Oliva slightly more. His vocals on Hall Of The Mountain King are amazing, especially on Strange Wings and the title track.

I think the first album from Iced Earth should be called thrash though. Gene Adams had a very thrashy voice. He kicked major ass. I like all their vocalists though.

I think Helloween was very influential in power metal, but Manowar, 1982, were first. Savatage debuted in 83. There were also a few more bands that were not so well known like Iron Cross that were around since the early 80s. Even Angel Witch can be called power metal to a certain extent, though they are more thrash. Also Anvil, even Metal Church.

I just have one thing to say about power metal...
and Ken would agree with me
*clears throat* STTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

nothing like opeth and swanö doing some cheesey power:kickass:

I never even knew Akerfeldt and Swano even liked power metal. Akerfeldt bashes it as much as all that mallcore shit.
If they did a power metal porject, I would HAVE to hear it for myself. Dan would do all the deep vocals and then during the acoustic guitars Mikael would sing.
Although if they did it like old Tad Morose, it would sound really really good.

some songs were recorded just to test the tuning of all the studio gadgets for the recording of Morningrise which Swanö produced.
it ended up as a mini project with a 3 song single release(2 songs on Vinyl and the same 2 songs+ say goodbye to love on cassete)
they called themselves Steel with the single:heavy metal machine

here we go
http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=9304
I can send you the songs if you want...Dan won't mind.I asked him:D

Hey, would you mind sending them to me too? I've been looking for Steel since like ever.

.. Btw, Åkerfeldt trashing mallcore doesn't makes alot of sense, since he's starting to go in that direction. Opeth is just like prog for mallcorians.

I agree too:lol: In Heavy Metal Machine Dan sounds like Halford, bu then on say goodbye (to love) the vocals are just scary

What does it sound like, the more happy power metal like Hammerfall or the cheesy heaviness of Manowar or something like that?

I just downloaded it but it won't play. It says my computer cannot find the file. Oh well.

it's an archive...you're supposed to open it with a program called winrar which is free by the way

I don't really know how to do any of that stuff. The only program that I know how to use is iTunes.

I only use iTunes as my music player, I hardly ever buy stuff from it. I think it's a good player though. The only thing I hate about it is that all the songs always run into each other. But it's a very easy program to use.

By the way, since when does vomit come out that neatly? Last time I threw up, my whole toilet was covered in it.
