I've been on the pitch with way too many Materazzi's in my time. Eventually, something always happens to that type of player. I remember one match where a little guy in a No. 2 jersey was running around clipping everybody whenever he had a chance and just making a complete ass of himself. He got a full-on forearm shiver right between his eyes on a lofted corner kick and then got dogpiled when he hit the ground. And his team forfeited the match.
Zizou is one of my favorites, though I'm not a French fan. I grew up in Belgium, but they haven't made the Cup since the Joel Bats days. I root for Holland in every Cup, but they don't do that well either.
So, long story short, I can see why Zidane did what he did with an ass like Materazzi on the pitch. That type of player just keeps chipping at you and chipping at you until you can't take it any more. And then all your pent up frustrations come out physically.

Zidane's going to do a press conference in a few days, so then we'll get the full story. Then materazzi will be in a whole heap of shit, especially since they were trying to crack down on racism at this cup.

I think the most accepted story at this point is that materazzi made racist/offensive remarks about zidane's mother, who is currently sick in the hospital.

It's too bad though that Fiorentina is in danger also, must be one of my favourite Italian teams besides Inter. Fiorentina has experienced this kind of relegation before few seasons back and then they climbed all the way from Serie C1 or so.

I'm sorry too, because Fiorentina is a great team. Unfortunately they will pay for their chairman bad behaviours.
The team went to Serie B, but it was relegated in Serie C2 because of bankruptcy.
