Empanadas are mighty tasty filled pastries. The traditional Chilean empanada (many Central and South American countries have their own versions) is filled with meat and spices (sometimes with a little olive or egg thrown in) and baked, though you can also get them filled with cheese and/or seafood and deep-fried.
Lots of good wine there...Chilean red wine, especially cabernet sauvignon is among the best in the world for full-bodied wine, and often one of the best bangs for your buck.

Oh, they've got their share of hot chicks in short skirts. Even better is the latin tradition of kissing them on the cheek when you meet them.

I knew of the fruit filled empanadas and I live in Michigan. I wouldn't mind trying the other kind that NFF was talking about.

I haven't tried either one. Since every Hispanic I've met in Arizona is Mexican, they all make the fruit ones, as do all of the restaurants (the ones that even carry them, which is rare). Walmart has pineapple and pumpkin empanadas (two different ones, not mixed 
) but they don't look very good and probably don't do them any justice, so I never bothered with them.

There's a really good Mexican restaurant near my house that has cheese or chorizo filled empanadas. We get them as an appetizer usually.
Edmonton has no good authentic Mexican restaurants, just a bunch of crappy ones run by white guys in suits

You'd think good Mexican restaurants would be all over Arizona, but you really have to pick and choose. Most of the really good ones are the cheap fast food type, but the food rocks. The nice sit down restaurants aren't usually any good, as they are run by white guys in suits.

I hate you guys! I didn't get any breakfast and now I am going to most definitely get a chicken burrito from the mexican restaurant close to my work. I am SO INCREDIBLY hungry from thinking about food right now.
