I've got 70 bottles of beer chilled at home in my beer fridge. That should get me a good start to the long weekend, then I can replace them with the other two cases that I have on the shelf next to the fridge.

Shame on you!! I got my beer last night and I got some ribs in the fridge marinating. I am only having a couple beers tonight though. I have to go a funeral tomorrow and then drive to my parents & help my dad.....and then it is going to be a thrashtastic weekend!!!! I plan on getting my degree in Rageonomics Monday night.

I have to work today. No plans for tomorrow except maybe water aerobics if I get up in time. Cookout on Tuesday with a friend on leave from Iraq, fireworks later that night, and then back to work on Wednesday.

I'm telling ya, I know how to live.

Seriously? If the 4th of July happens on a Saturday or Sunday, you guys get screwed out of a long weekend?

No, most places that give time off for holidays will either give you that Monday, which is the most common thing, or give you a "floating holiday" that can be used at your discretion later. My dad's worked for various school districts most of my life, and that's how they do it. He's always got a Monday off somewhere, whatever the students are off for, he gets it too.

In retail, if you work that day, you get time and a half, and if you're off that day, you get 8 hours holiday pay, as long as you work the day before and the day after the holiday. I'm off on Tuesday, but I'll be getting paid to go to that cookout and watch the fireworks. That's better than doing it for free.
