Cool that there are Elliott Smith fans here. I've quite recently found his stuff thanks to a friend of mine. He was really talented.

Check out Estatic Fear's "A Sombre Dance". There is a song on there called "Chapter VII" its absolutely mindblowing. I asked a friend once for good fingerpicked acoustic songs and he put it on his cellphone and I was taken by it. Its such a good piece, that have other similar songs on that album as well. I have to agree with everyone that said Jose Gonzalez - I think he's perfect for what you're looking for. Also, he has brilliant cover songs (Heartbeats = pure brilliance).
Also, it's prettfy fun to play along to, but he usually tunes his guitar in Dm I think.
