I've noticed that when it comes to metal the only people i know that like seem to be my brother and one of his friends. Whenever i ask around with my friends or family they either can't stand it or only seem to like nu metal, metalcore or ozzy. Is it just me or it like this with everyone, because it seems like the only real source i have for metal seem to be on the net...

I feel ya...I got friends just like that...and since I can't drive, I don't go to many shows.

Eh, my friends listen to metal, just most of them do not have the resources to dig deep, yet then again some of them just prefer not to listen to the gritty. A person has to have a passion for metal music, otherwise most people just knock it off as noise whereas it is, perhaps, one of the most well thought out musical genres in pop culture! Cheers.

i have some friends into goth and a few into metal but none really have any passion for it

their loss :kickass:

I am the only black metal fan at my high school, which in total has one death metal fan (not counting me) and two thrash fans, along with about 20 Opeth fans.

my friends are into nu metal. I seriously want to punch one of my friends when he says hes a huge black metal fan because he listens to mudvayne and slipknot :|

It seems I am as well. My friend claims to dislike it because it's too religion-oriented (as in Satanism and the like), but yet he still won't listen to BM bands like Satyricon and Immortal who don't really focus on that sort of thing. So basically, I'm all alone when it comes to black metal. :waah:

I've managed to spread certain bands onto my friends... namely Opeth and ISIS... as they are a good mix of heaviness and beautiful melodies. Back in so cal where I'm from everyone is into metalcore and all that stuff, so "metal" is somewhat popular (notice the quotes please). I don't really care. I know I get way more out of the music I listen to than the stupid hardcore kid with his Atreyu shirt that he just bought online a week ago. And speaking of school: back in high school I'm actually surprised I had the friends I had. I had my little really close group of friends of course, but I was always friends with the "popular" (I know thats a shitty term to use, but you guys do know what I mean) crowd of surfers and superficial sluts as well, yet I was blasting Emperor in the parking lot while they were blasting Sublime.

Last year one of the thrash fans at my school said to me as I passed by "You're a Christian??? Ha ha ha...." (He noticed my cross around my neck).

He has no idea....

Yes, but I find myself having to whisper denials to myself when an audible blasphemic lyric comes up. Good example is "God is Dead! Dead! Hellelujah!"

of the 2 people i know personally that listen to any metal, they mostly listen to power metal and meshuggah, both of which i despise with every cell in my pancreas.

mystic circle is some half-decent satanic metal, as long as you take it as a joke. i really take all satanic metal as a complete joke, as i do with white metal that gets too religious. both are equally silly opposites...

I've been able to turn a few of my friends into metalheads. also at school and the last place I worked there are/were some people into metal
