Well the 00's are getting around to halfway done. Any albums of particular note that you think will still be relevent when we get to the 2010's and beyond? So far I have five.

Tool - Lateralus (10/10)
Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye (10/10)
Jerry Cantrell - Degradation Trip volumes 1 & 2 (10/10)
King Crimson - The Power to Believe (9/10)
Hammers of Misfortune - The August Engine (9/10)

I think Kayo Dot and King Crimson will have the most influence on a variety of groups in the coming years, but more importantly they have amazing albums right now. The other three are just insanely good, but nothing really new. Actually Tool, Jerry Cantrell, and Hammers are pretty much throwbacks to years past, but they are so god damn good that they will still matter "when I'm 64."

Negura Bunget and Drudkh may round out a top ten in 6 years, but are likely to get bumped by something else. These five are not.

Negura and Drudkh will likely have a limited influence on future musicians due to their obscurity, but only time will be able to tell that.

Agalloch - The Mantle
In the woods... - Live at the caledonien hall
Ancient Rites - Dim Carcosa (Yes, really)
Dissection - Live Legacy
Dimmu Borgir - Death cult armageddon (Yes, really)
Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
Nevermore - Dead heart in a dead world
Summoning - Let mortal heroes sing your fame
Watain - Casus luciferi
Drudkh - Both albums
Arcturus - The sham mirrors
Immortal - Sons of northern darkness
Negura Bunget - 'n Crugu Bradului

Albums it's may not be too early to bestow future classic upon:
Agalloch - The Mantle, Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors, Green Carnation - Light Of Day, Devin Townsend - Terria, Pain Of Salvation - The Perfect Element.

Albums that await the test of time:
Maudlin Of The Well - Bath/LYBM, Orphaned Land - Mabool, Into Eternity - Buried In Oblivion, Blut Aus Nord - The Work... (I've been spellbound by this one lately), Enslaved - Below The Lights, Katatonia - Viva Emptiness, Ulver - Perdition City, Porcupine Tree - In Absentia, Hammers of Misfortune - The August Engine.

Expect a revision of this tentative list...

I really can't think of any at the moment.

The only thig Sham Mirors will be remembered for is being a monstrous step down from La Masquerade Infernale. Holy shit Sham Mirrors gobbles the fat one.

I don't care if it's different. La Masquerade was very different from Aspera, yet both are good. Sham Mirrors was just too plain for its own good. Nothing mind-blowing about it.

Sham Mirrors = my favorite Arcturus. I rarely listen to any of them all the way through though, Sverd makes me feel like I'm on prozac.

Agalloch - The Mantle is one that could make this list. Maybe that Blut Aus Nord as well, but too early to tell at this point.

I didn't like it because it was a monstrous step down from La Masquerade Infernale in every which way. There.

You have to remember that J. can't talk about a subject without trashing something or another. Just like I can't make a post that isn't idiotic.
yur st00pid.

Best. Response. EvAr.

Really has been spamtastic around here since last night. Cool.

Choirs of the Eye is simply a triumph on so many levels. now if only virgin records would realize that "Kayo Dot" is not a person and stop filing it as Dot, Kayo...:erk:

reasons:
Baliset is a great guitar player
Toby writes great lyrics
Mia is a great violinist and cute to boot

so let's summarize: cute chick, great lyrics and music, a sense of adventure!
