overlooked essentials

Kvist - For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike

I know there are fans of this gem here, and rightly so - it's fucking fantastic.

I was just listening to this one earlier tonight. Yeah, this is a really good album that almost never gets mentioned. Highly recommended.

I still really like Krohm. Kind of like if the prayers on Si Monumentum were crossed with Drudkh and directed towards the lords of ice.

I never meant to imply that Niden Div. 187 was essential. Overlooked, yeah, but I was only recommending it to Dodens because he asked for 2nd wave Swedish Black Metal.

Ah, I guess I missed that then. Anyway, cheers on the rec!

Got any more? :Saint:

@BurningWitch: Blod Draum...god yes. I mentioned it earlier in this thread, but that is a bizarre piece of excellent art.

i would say meshuggahs contradictions collapse is really overlooked.
Anyone who loves and justice for all is also going to love CC,it´s the same high standard of thrash in my opinion.
another one is Bathorys "comeback" Nordland 1.Really amazing album that has gotten a bit overlooked just because it´s not one of the "classic" old albums.anyone with me on this one maybe?

I dunno, there are four or five cool Bathory viking-era albums, but they do all pale in comparison to Hammerheart and I don't mind that people tend to acknowledge that.

I've been meaning to check this band out for years. Is this album out of print? I'd like to find it.

Nah, I saw it in my local HMV once actually. I think it was re-issued not too long ago. I still need to pick it up myself. Great album, but the audible pick sliding in the production does bug me a little.

Yea, used to think differently, but to be honest, the production on The Nocturnal Silence started to bug me a little. Ancient God of Evil has a very organic sound to it. I love albums with organic production, hence my preference. TNS is still great, however, just not amazing.
Just listened to AGoE again with my headphones on. It flows so naturally, almost seamlessly and is engaging from beginning to end. Seriously great stuff.

yeah that is a pretty underestimated album, but one thing thats a bit frustrating for me is that they often play a great riff, but then they sometimes quickly change into a weaker riff, otherwise it shurely would have been a classic today

It's not about the riffs really, but more about the atmosphere and this album has plenty of it.

Sorry bout that. I think I might have gotten the album just becasue of your rec in this thread and death aflame's in another. Anyways, I had forgotten, and it should be me thanking you/deathaflame for bringing up that wonderful album, which led me to buy it.

yeah but at least i think thats kinda connected, the difference if you compare that album to for example the somberlain is the re-occuring themes that comes back, creating the atmosphere.
