Actually, In Flames HAVE been playing older songs lately. For example, the London Ontario setlist looks like this:

cloud connected
episode 666
artifacts of the black rain
pinball map
system
dial 595-escape
colony
scorn
gyroscope
behind space
jotun
bullet ride
clayman
morphing into primal (!!!)
only for the weak
quiet place
moonshield
trigger
touch of red
my sweet shadow

In Istanbul they played The Hive and Pallar Anders Visa. Graveland has been played a few times lately.
:OMG: If thats for real, I really wish theyd do some of that stuff during their US tours. Even when I saw them headline last May, they didnt do anything off Jester Race and only one song off Whoracle (still an amazing show though)

I was hoping frantic eyes would post his or her aftershow review so I could add my 2 cents but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'm going ahead with my review. Sorry, fe, but if ya snooze... ;-)

Ozzfest @ Tweeter Center - Tinley Park, IL - 30 July 2005

My sister and I went to the show yesterday. The doors opened @ 9:00 am ( ) but we didn't get there, parked, and inside the venue until about 1:30. When we arrived Mastodon were just coming onto the Hot Topic stage, which was out in the middle of a big asphalt parking lot under the blazing sun. There was a big crowd and mosh pit in front of it and it didn't look too inviting to be out there frying like scrambled eggs on the pavement. Therefore, we decided to get some water and walk around to check out the merch booths and other attractions. Since the Tweeter Center is located in the middle of a big open area with hardly any trees for shade, we were still out there on the hot asphalt under the blazing sun. My sister having lived in Texas for a good portion of her life didn't mind this situation at all, but I quickly started to hate it. Fortunately there was only another couple hours to wait until we were allowed to enter the main stage area. We had lawn seats so we quickly grabbed a shady spot up close in the middle of the lawn section. I immediately started to feel better even though I could feel that all the exposed skin on my body was sunburned. :\ About 30 minutes later In Flames hit the stage.

Their brief set included:

1) Cloud Connected
2) Touch of Red
3) Pinball Map
4) The Quiet Place
5) My Sweet Shadow

Well, they didn't have much time but it was a lively well-executed set. Furthermore, the fact that In Flames has to go on before the likes of Mudvayne, Shadows Fall, and BLS is just criminal - MO, of course. Shadows Fall put on a great set, though, and they were the only other main stage act apart from In Flames, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath that I really cared about seeing. But I still think In Flames should go on after them. :p

Then Iron Maiden came on and proceeded to slay us with classic back catalogue favorites. It was very VERY \m/etal. :worship: They opened with The Ides of March and Murders in the Rue Morgue. Two excellent choices to kick off the set which I did not write down, however I do remember singing along and banging my head to other old stuff like:

The Trooper
Revelations
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Run to the Hills
The Number of the Beast
Phantom of the Opera
Iron Maiden
Sanctuary

It was an old-school Maiden fan's dream! I couldn't think of a better band to follow them up than the original Black Sabbath, who were up next...

We were very lucky yesterday because Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward - the original Black Sabbath - performed an exciting and well-executed set as well. The big screen behind the drum kit with the close-up shots of the band members made them look larger than life, which was great for those of us up in the nosebleed section. Their set consisted of several Sabbath classics but I didn't write them down. There were some medleys in there and I remember they did Electric Funeral which was the highlight of the show for me. They also teased us with the intro to Symptoms of the Universe but they ended up going into Iron Man instead. Meh. That's a given, I suppose, but I would have rather had Symptoms. Hearing all of Electric Funeral sort of made up for it but only by about | | <<<< that much. :p There were other quality classic in the set, though, which made it worth the sunburn and sitting through bands I couldn't care less about.

Other general observations, etc.:

* Concessions were over-priced but that's no surprise
* No Christopher Amott w/Arch Enemy? Bummer. Not that we would have seen their set anyway, but still...
* I would have rather seen Rob Zombie, Trivium, or any of the other 2nd stage Swedish bands on the main stage instead of Mudvayne or BLS.
* No In Flames girlie tops that I could see at any of the booths we visited. There were tees but even so, I didn't really care for any of the designs - and for $35? Nah. Not for me this time.
* My sister noticed and pointed out to me a large number of people up in the VIP boxes spending most of their time checking out the folks on the lawn instead of watching the bands on the stage. They all cleared out when Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath came on, though. We both thought that was hysterical.
* Too many grossly FAT fucks of both sexes walking around exposing their blobular selves. Cover that flab up, people! Ewwwww. Yuk.
* A 9:00 am start time? (Oh yeah, I've already covered that.)
* Unless there are more bands I want to see than not, I think I'm done with all-day festivals out under the blazing sun.
* We helped a nice guy who was parked behind us get his car started after the show. Our good karma deed for the day. :-)
