Anybody else into these guys??? I stumbled upon them recently and think the singer has a fucking great voice along with some killer musicians to back him up. I guess their prog rock but they do have their own sound. Gooood SHIT!!!

I downloaded their last 2 cds and found them to be rather boring. It seems like they want to be prog, but they don't want to be labeled that way, so they tone down their technicality, which makes it boring to me. I think you'll find a lot of fans here, though, 'cause I've seen them recommended several times before.

I saw them just before dream theater. I really goot into songs like Undertow when they brought up a cello on stage.. The bassist handled that one. Remedy Lane, their latest cd is really good, a bit soft and so, but really good =)

Na, I didn't like them when they opened for Dream Theater. Apart from the fact that the sound was horrible (not the band's mistake), I couldn't get into their music...all the songs they played started with clean guitars and the songs itself were some kind of strange...Don't know, not my style, but definetly they know how to play their instrument (but I still don't know why their bassist played this 6-string, everything he did could have been played on a four string).
their first album and u will see what prog metal is...They take this music decades ahead...Then, with the next albums and especially with their latest 2 they try to write music under no style...they have their own style...and their music has real passion and feeling...and their singer is a god!

I love them!! Right now, they're my faves among the progrssive metal scene, and I think they're really prog, in an almost 70's way of speaking... Plus, Daniel Gildenlow is a GODLY singer! Unfortunately, I didn't see them with Dt cause I arrived late at the venue!!
Their debut album is by far the heaviest and most diverse album, yet its the one that is most accessible. Plenty of Meshuggah-like riffs and some funky jazz thrown in for good measure, so this should keep most Nevermore fans satisfied. The last 3 albums are more toned down and moody, so you will need about 5 good spins to fully digest them. Nevertheless, the lead singer/guitarist (D.Gildenlow) is one hell of a talented musician/songwriter.
I have found very few people who give me back one of their discs and don't like them. The first disc is still my favorite but all of their discs still get plenty of listens. I would put them right there with Nevermore and Opeth as my favorite bands. It did take The Perfect Element alot of listens before I got caught up in it much like Dead Heart in a Dead World did for me.

K, downloaded Entropia. It isn't any heavier than their new stuff and it is just as boring to me. I don't like a lot of prog rock. I really need that metallic crunch to keep me interested (unless it is really technical stuff). Prog metal is awesome, but Pain of Salvation are not prog metal.
.. they're more of a moody prog 'metal' band than anything else.
If you want crushing metal like Nevermore, I think you're better off sticking to thrashy bands like Prototype, Pagan's Mind and Obliveon. If you can handle death growls, try Extol and Quo Vadis.

I don't know ow someone can listen to "Entropia" and say it's not metal.
They may not sound technical because they are so melodic and the songs are so beautifully orchestrated but there is so much going on there.
Like the chorus of "Fandango" he sings in 4/4 while the band plays in 5/4
NO ONE IN METAL DOES STUFF LIKE THAT!!!!
I much prefer this kind of complex subtely then bands who throw 100 riffs together without any semblence of flow and call themselves tech metal.
also how does someone listen to "used" and say they are not metal....it's absolutely ming boggling to me.
Sure they have alot of lighter moments, god forbid a band puts out dynamic CDs these days....we need double bass pounding the whole album through!
And the thing someone said about the bassists is BS....he definately uses all his strings....he's a great player....superb control over his fretless, and he does alot of jazzy stuff and funk groove that not many metal guys can pull off.

I like them. Far from being my favorite band though, but I have heard a lot of much worse bands than PoS.
