Hello again,

this is the final shootout before my Cab library will be released in the next days!

You might know the first and second part of the shootout.

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/equipment/714823-part-2-ultimate-ir-nebula-real-deal-test.html

It was all about getting as close as possible to a real mic'ed cab with impulse and Nebula Volterra methods.
I wanna thank all of you that lend me your ears and helped me to always try more to get the best possible result.
Especially Ermz, that again kindly provided DIs and a backing track.

This time its not 3 files, but 5. Why?
I put two different IR methods and two different Nebula programs in the shootout.

So files A - E are
Mic'ed Cab
Nebula
Nebula
IR
IR

Not in that order of course :)
I will tell you the results and about the differences in the methods later.

Ok, here are the files

Because the differences are small, you should import the files in your DAW of choice.

The ones that only wanna listen to a mp3 that features the cab's sound in a context without comparision can check here

Its Mago's DIs and Lasse's backing track from another thread.

edit: Library is out now

I agree 100 percent with Kev.

A & B are the impulses
C & D are nebula
E is the real cab

I thought I made up my mind and then I looked at what others posted, now I'm second guessing because I'm a bit of a noob. Only thing I have noticed worth mentioning is that 'D' has some weird crackling noises going on that I didn't notice on any of the others. Besides that, it sounds pretty good all around.

I can only say don't believe what the others think is right :)
I think its pretty much impossible to really guess everything correct. But maybe you could guess what is the real mic'ed cab.
Because it is the goal that there is no real difference anymore.

I vote for "nobody gives a f.. " :D Nah.. just kidding. But seriously everything it so close that it doesn't matter. I've always trusted IRs and I'll continue to do so. :) Anyways... I cheated a bit and processed them in my DAW and found some clues on which is which.

My guess:
A: Nebula
B: IR
C: IR
D: Nebula
E: The real cabinet

A and D had dynamic differences when compared to these other clips so that's why I think they are Nebula. E had the most presence after 12Khz so I think it's the real cabinet. At 17Khz there's a 4dB difference between this E clip and other clips. Remember that guitar cabinets aren't even designed to have this frequency so it's not essential... some people low pass guitars at 7Khz. :)

They all sound pretty close, but they are differences, I just can't figure out what to make out of them yet.
I think D is clipping tho, in the part were there are only guitars.

Have to wait until my cold is gone 100% before I can give a vote which I would trust

Its so close, just listen on my laptop at work, I can hear subtle differences but not enough to worry about. I like D but I couldn't tell you if it is a real cab or not...

Here are the results

A - Nebula with saturation captured at 44.1 kHz
B - Impulse 44.1 kHz
C - Impulse 96 kHz
D - Mic
E - Nebula in 96 kHz without capturing saturation, just like an impulse but with dynamics

I think the artifacts some of heard come from my now dying tubes. ;)

If I had to guess I would say:

A is Nebula, B & C are impulses, D is a miked cab, and E is Nebula. Just wild guesses here.

i just listened to the shootout for 1 and 2.

unfortunately the download for 3 is not working anymore. can you reup?
