paylessguitar.cn?

I think, if one was to buy a guitar through these guys, that I would worry about it actually showing up!? Especially at $100 for shipping. Sure, it doesn't seem like much when the shipping only makes the guitar cost $300, but I'd be more upset if I fucked out of my $300.

I generally boycott products made in China, whenever possible. They need to stop abusing human rights and stop using lead in products. This website is just one example out of millions of how China is failing at life.

Sadly, it's getting harder to boycott China, as more and more stuff is getting made there, because greedy corporations are loving the cheap labor. Even Craftsman fucking tools are made in China now!! It's worse than Japan in the 1950s. Maybe someday China will learn about quality like the Japanese did, and the greedy companies will have to outsource more stuff to India, Pakistan, or wherever else humans are treated like cattle and the streets flow with toxic waste.

I applaud companies like ENGL and Mesa Boogie for refusing to outsource to the Chinese. The difference in build quality is staggering. This topic is worthy of its own thread.

One reason why bitching about Mesa's pricing structure is just misinformed.

You get what you pay for.

apples and oranges. You don't have to make your prices non-negotiable to build in the USA. I think what people dislike about mesa is that there are no deals to be had.

You have to put equal blame on greedy consumers who "need" to own tons of shit but don't want to pay a fair price for it. If consumers valued first-world craftsmanship over third-world prices far fewer companies would build there.

Well I don't know if we're still talking just about music gear here or we've segued into all sorts of goods, but I think we can agree that most musicians do in fact value the first-world craftsmanship over third-world prices (and to be a total douche, I don't think calling China a "third-world" country is appropriate, seeing as how it's a Communist country, and therefore second-world by definition :p)

True on all counts (although to be a total douche, I said "third-world prices" --not countries:Smug:).

I too agree with you get what you pay for. While there is debate on the quality of craftmanship of brands over the years, I still think that if you cut corners on price, you cut corners on quality. Through my work, I've been able to take 2 tours of the Gibson factory (not to mention they covered my tab at a bar haha). I have seen guitars cut, sanded, routed, painted, setup ... it takes so much time, and care - and most of the guys building these are just like us. Musicians who love music and the passion behind an instrument.

Some companies have GREAT off shore products. The 400 series ESP LTDs are awesome. The high end Schecter Diamond Series (Hellraiser, C1 Classic, Stiletto Elites ) are awesome as well. But there is just something really gross about knockoff brands that make me willing to pay the price for the name. There is a reason premo brands cost what they do. PRS is fucking hella expensive, but after seeing what goes into those instruments, it's a fucking steal for a guitar I would call a work of art.

This also gets down to the argument of how much something should actually cost, or even moreso, who actually determines how much something should cost. What is truly a fair price? People are often more worried about how to make life more liveable off of the same or similar things. A valid example is you have some people here who rave about the Radial X-Amp they got for $175, yet others who have built thier own or bought one from someone that built it for about $40, yet it does the same thing as the X-Amp. There is more to the equation than Price vs. Quality. It's not that black/white.
