On some thread around here, someone said they saw a guy in his car with hundreds of CD-Rs.
The reason I'm posting is because I have about 20-30 CD-Rs of albums in my Civic. These are CD-Rs of albums that I bought. These CD-Rs are my back ups, if my car is stolen, I don't have to replace my albums.
It is definitely not cool to own albums that you love, but never paid for (or recieved originals as gifts, etcl).
It is cool to download music to sample it. But if you lke it, you should fucking pay for it (unless it is Metallica or Dr. Dre).
Thank you.

it makes sense why wear out the originals for,i do dl alot but when i first got my computer i didnt even try and get full albums from artists,i tried to get bout 10 songs of a band to test them out before i bought any cd of there's

i cant wait to have every david allan coe cd in my collection, that guy just rules the earth lol

hopefully one day that rebel meets rebel project with dimebag and dac comes to light.

I agree with Thraxdude, but, I think the person that posted that was pretty sure that those CD's weren't backups ... me too I always have CD-R's of Anthrax in my car - copies that I get to wear out by constantly listening to 'Trax in my car... :)

I've been making comp CD's with CD-R's of Joey and John tunes. I figure if record companies can do it and charge $15, I'll make my own for 50 cents / CD!

I've made a few copies of WCFYA and passed them around to some friends. None of my friends listen to what I listen to. None of them would bother buying the record or downloading it. Most of the people that I've given copies to dig the new record. Oh, and I've made copies of every Anthrax CD that I own. I can't tell you how many times I've bought each CD after wearing the hell out of them. I've probably purchased 7 to 9 copies of Stomp alone.

7 to 9 copies? man, what do you use your cd's for? do you play frisbee with them?

I make backups for my car (I live in a really lovely area back home), but never hundreds at a time. In fact, most of the CD's are compilations like my Anthrax/Motorhead one, or my "Drive Way Too Fast" Cd with a bunch of thrash metal.

I have backups on my work computer, home computer, and on cd. So I don't have to carry cds into work. Plus I have an mp3 player in my car. I make mp3 compilation cds. and those are good. couple hours of music.

I bought three each of SoWN and Stomp. Only one each was to get the re-issue. I need a fourth Stomp though... !:waah:

I also made a copy of Volume 8 and put the original away in case I never find it again, and I've made my own compilations a number of times. I rarely download anything anymore, and even then it's one or two songs by a band and I make my decision from there...which I feel is basically the same as listening to the radio.

I deffinately agree with thraxdude I download to sample and to replace any CD I bought that crapped out a long time ago. I think it's perfectly legal to copy a CD as long as you don't sell it. I'm not sure about DLing after you buy it though. It's like my friend with a FTP server says "I use my FTP for storage, it's not my fault people pop on and download it from me" :)

....just downloaded the new Transplants CD.....Travis(Blink 182), Tim (Rancid)....if I really really love an album after downloading it..I will buy it....if its a good album...well...then I'll stick with the download...I can't afford spending all that cash on CD's...sorry.

I have a carrying case that contains nothing but CD-R's in my car, probably about a hundred of them.

I keep all my store bought CD's (somewhere just over 500 of them) in their cases, but I don't have cases for my CD-R's, so I generally keep them all in one big carrying case.

Most of the CD's are mix CD's of my favorite songs from the above mentioned store bought albums. Yes, there are downloaded songs on these albums, too, although I've never downloaded an entire album (I will make an exception when the new Metallica album comes out, just out of my own principles).

Some of the downloaded songs are rare b-sides that are hard to find elsewhere. I have two albums full of John Bush-era Thrax b-sides. Of these, I'd say that I actually own the albums or singles that these are from for about 2/3, and have downloaded the rest because I couldn't find those albums anywhere. (I challenge any of you to find me an original CD containing Bud E. Luvbomb's Satan Lounge Band)

Some are by artists I've never heard before, but wanted to check out. Radio stations in my area never play the type of music I'm interested in, so how else am I supposed to get exposed to the artists. I'm not going to buy them on blind faith alone. Prior to CD's, I commonly copied entire albums borrowed from friends onto a blank tape in order to check them out. How is this different?

Other songs are songs that I previously owned on tape, but didn't want to have to buy the whole CD for one or two songs. I've never downloaded an entire album that I've previously owned on tape...if I liked the tape enough to want all or most of the songs on CD, I've just bought the CD.

Some songs I've never owned, again basically because I didn't think it was worth it to pay $15-20 to buy an entire album just for one song. I'm not taking away from record sales there, because if I couldn't download it, I wouldn't have bought the album anyway. I just never would have bothered.

So you can agree with my logic or not, but I'm not going to apologize for a carrying case full of burned CD's. I will apologize, however, for having such a long-winded post

I agree with your logic. Especially the Metallica part.
However, I do not have Bud E. Lovebomb.
