So, for the first time in 8 years I've decided to make a bm comp for someone that asked after listening to Moonspell's Wolfheart while it was on at my house. It was more difficult than it was years ago, finding decent stuff for a beginner, as shit's changed.

Only tracks I'm sure of are the first and last ones, namely Lux Occulta's Chalice of Lunar Blood (first) & Bathory's Fine Day to Die (last). Gonna be a couple days of brewing it over before I figure this out. I'll probably cop out and put With Strength I Burn in there, but I want badly to throw in Towards The Pantheon.

Anyone got any good ideas, beginnerish or not? Or a decent line-up?

whatnow?

He heard the gothic metal of Moonspell and was provoked to say 'I need to finally hear some good metal, what do you know of black metal'?

my recommends of some catchy/accessable BM'esque tracks

Darkthrone - Ytterst I Livet
Samael - Rebellion
Samael - I Love the Dead
Samael - After the Sepulture
Wyrd - Daylight Dies
Rotting Christ - Snowing Still
Carpathian Forest - Return of the Freezing Winds (Live)
Graveworm - (N)utopia
Cryptic Wintermoon - The Shadowkeep
Horna - Sieluhaaska
Mirzadeh - Fullmoon Dream
Marduk - Dracul Va Domni Din Nou in Transilvania

Satyricon's work is fairly accessible, Mayhem is a classic and some of their earliest stuff should definetely be on the list so should Burzum, mayble Enslaved, Immortal, just go for second wave classics. If you are looking for the ultimate in accessibility though, Cradle of Filth.

Darkthrone - En Vind Av Sorg
Emperor - I Am the Black Wizards
Burzum - Lost Wisdom
Leviathan - Heir to the Noose of Ghoul
Deathspell Omega - Sola Fide I
Blut Aus Nord - The Choir of the Dead

Some traditional stuff and some new stuff.

Bathory - A Fine Day To Die
Emperor - I Am The Black Wizards
Mayhem - Freezing Moon
Burzum - Jesu Død
Immortal - Unholy Forces Of Evil
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
Darkthrone - As Flittermice as Satans Spys
Graveland - Thousand Swords
Dissection - Night's Blood
Deathspell Omega - Succubus Of All Vices

I don't know if I'd call all those "accessible" but they're a good place to start when getting into black metal.

Bathory - A Fine Day to Die
Borknagar - Ruins of the Future
Burzum - Jesus' Tod
Carpathian Forest - Start Up the Incinerator
Celtic Frost - The Usurper
Darkthrone - In the Shadow of the Horns
Emperor - I Am the Black Wizards
Marduk - Christraping Black Metl
Mayhem - Freezing Moon
Xasthur - Telepathic With the Deceased

Agrees with the 2nd wave stuff, skip the symphonic watered down crap.
