i went through a big floyd phase but they piss me off these days, NEVER liked piper though, fuck syd barrett for subjecting me to that horrible horrible shit

I am listening to this album right now for the umpteenth time. In my opinion, this is the best album I have ever heard. Discuss this album.

i would hardly consider it the best album i've ever heard... it's excellent but highly overplayed and overrated... its not even the best PF album

Piper is one of their finest release.(that too, considering it's their debut album)
It perfectly represents what we call as 'psychedelic' music. If you hate it so much, then the genre is not for you.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is fucking gay

Piper At the Gates of Dawn and Saucerful of Secrets are both interesting albums, but I rarely listen to them. Far too immature for my tastes. I own them and love them because they help to demonstrate the path of growth that Pink Floyd followed. When they got rid of Syd Barrett they became monumentally better. Barrett was a genius, you could argue; but he was not for Pink Floyd. He served them better as a source of inspiration. He was far too childish for Roger's intellect.

My favorite Pink Floyd album is Meddle. That's the album that shows them truly coming into their own and finding their sound. It marked when Pink Floyd discovered what they were destined to become, and when the balance of songwriting began to near perfection. I think it's such an interesting record, and even filler tracks like San Tropez and Seamus are still awesome. Truly a killer record (Echoes... 'Nuff said ).

'psychedelic music' is a ridiculously broad term covering everything from the byrds to fucking blue cheer, in fact in my experience the term is most frequently applied to garage rock/punk of the mid/late '60s which is generally nothing like syd barrett's shit whatsoever drug-use aside. but yeah, the summer of love hippie psych movement full of WHIMSY AND DELIGHT is utter crap, that's a fact not an opinion.

btw fuck psych-era beatles while we're at it

yeah i agree, but especially fuck everything post-revolver, that's when they started getting really obnoxious. the popularity of abbey road is a fucking joke

Dark Side of the Moon RULES, screw Syd Barrett

that album changed me, there were quite a few around that time however that really stood out, thats when a band was its own genre, not just part of a genre.
