Wow, alot of you don't understand Syd to say screw Syd or this other nonesense posts... let's not play follow the leader like they do in the GMD forum... I do suggest you read Saucerful of Secrets to understand him and the other guys more... And personally if he hadn't lost his mind he probably would of progressed along with the rest of the band to their later music...

That being said I think you guys forgot another brilliant album by them:

Wish you Were Here

P.S. As for Animals, when i first got it, it was a difficult album to get into but after listening to it many times you start to enjoy it. Especially Gilmour's playing as always because he's brilliant throughout.

I just started reading it again... 2nd time around since i got it like a couple of years ago... great book and probably the best one on them... especially the parts about Syd before he left the band...

Didnt Gilmore replace Barrett ?

So when you answer me that one... then you can tell me why I shouldnt say... screw Syd Barrett

Just because someone replaces someone in a band does not make the first player insignificant or any more less important to a band... I'm sure you can name half a dozen or more other musicians that got replaced in some bands that you still consider brilliant or just as brilliant as the replacement... you saying such a brilliant line as "screw Syd Barrett" is just a way for you to make up for your insecurities and to be a azz lol...

ah... no... Charmin.... I say screw Syd Barrett because the only Pink Floyd that matters is that which contains Gilmore

They didn't land on DSOTM magically. And it was Syd that put them on track to begin with. And oh, there was already Meddle and Piper before DSOTM even came out. Syd might have used drugs and acted a bit childish, but thats not a reason for me to ditch the music.
Oh well, whatever floats your boat.

so who spins Meddle regularly? All I remember about that one is someone had it, we listened to it and said... "ya Ok" and put on DSOTM or WYWH

on the flip side if Barrett would have maintained we never would have recieved Dark Side

Pointless speculations.

I for once, spin meddle and Piper very often. Astronomy Domine(from piper) is one of my favorite Floyd song. It's not easy to appreciate on one listen, but it definitely gets on after sometime.
I'm in no way trying to state that they are better than DSOTM or WYWH.
WYWH & Animals are actually my favorite Floyd albums ever. But there is a lot to explore in Piper and meddle as well. I actually listen to them all quite equally. Each of those albums have something good and different to offer. It's only with The Wall that i have a problem.

Hey Razor. I think you would like to read this. It'll help fill you in on stuff you seem to be missing.

Edit from the mod: Please don't post meatspin in here thanks.

I would disagree and say without Dark Side of the Moon they would have never gone anywhere

Without Syd they never would have written Dark Side, though.

Meddle is my favorite Floyd record.

And I think you're right in that final statement. But again, if Barrett had never joined we never would have had Dark Side.

'echoes' is possibly the best thing they ever did

It's definitely the most epic thing they ever did. :headbang:

yes obviously a founding member, that recorded on one album when they were an underground psychodelic band, contributed a bit to the second album... like one song. The Pink Floyd we know, the Pink Floyd that gained world wide recogonition is that with David Gilmore playing the guitar and Roger Waters as the primary "band leader".... dont cry everybody, wasnt me that fed him the LSD. The two albums that took them to the top, Dark Side and Wish You... were a far cry from the psychodelia of the 60's

Nobody is crying about Syd barrett leaving the band. The fact that you fail to acknowledge what he contributed shows your ignorance.
I don't think anyone here is telling you to stop listening to DSOTM or WYWH. The fact is that, they have more to offer than those alone. you are damn close minded alright...
And oh, popularity means nothing to me. It's all about the music. All your doing is keep stating DSOTM made them popular blablabla but listen to Meddle like some have recommended and tell me it's not good.
And I'm goona reinstate that piper is a damn fine album. Just because there was drug abuse & Childish behavior doesn't mean that you cant appreciate the music. Having a different guitarist obviously can bring a change in sound, but how does that make it a bad album in anyway?
They were a bit underground back then, but hey, like i said, popularity means nothing to me. DSOTM made them popular and they produced two more stunning albums after that(WYWH & Animals) but how does that make their previous material any less interesting or not worth?
