POD XT Clips

sounds really good bro, very realistic for a pod, but hard for me to really judge if it's not in the context of a mix.

is that a podxt? or a podproxt?

good stuff!!

Sounds very good, most of the plastic in the sound of previous POD versions is gone, very little remained. I suppose PODxt would be killer for cutting demos and getting a good sound instantly, but I wouldn't use it on a real album, if there's a possibility to record from a miked amp.

Fuck man I love my POD XT and to hear another user get samples this good out of one too is that much more validation. Only note I have is to duck the EQ a bit (-2db) at a tight Q at like 13.5 (you are probably already doing this but my opinion is it needs a tad more) or that gain buzz will be really apparent once you drop it in the mix. Sounds killer!!! So spill it what guitar, pickups, head and cab model?
My Guess is EMGs, 5150 (Criminal) but cab and mic I am lost. Let us know.

Hey Guys--
Here are a couple of clips I recorded tonight with the POD XT. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

As a point of reference, for the first clip I played those riffs from the Rise To Addiction clips that Andy posted:

POD XT (RtA Riffs)

And the second clip is just some riffs I was messing around with:

POD XT (Clip 2)

Let me know if you think they sound OK. Thanks!

Hey Matt that sounds cool, and I'd imagine it'd be totally usable in a good mix. I'd also be interested to find out what settings you used :)

Y'know, I tried doing the same sort of thing since I got a pod pro XT fairly recently, i.e. I tried to get a Sneap-esque tone, using that Rise to Addiction riff as something to play!!!! :Spin:

Totally different sound or tone to your clip, but here's as far as I got trying to get a Sneapish tone (I tried A/Bing Testament's the Gathering as a reference guitar sound). Mine has more mids though and it's a bit harsh on its own... boxier??? I'm getting some MSP5 monitors soon...

(two guitars, panned hard left and right consecutively)

I've a 300KB clip of a Gathering guitar sample panned left and my closest pod sound to it panned right if anyone's interested, don't wanna post it up, might be infringing copyright or possibly infringing on the musical works of Mr. James Murphy!!!! *shrugs*

Again, I'm in the same boat as Matt, any feedback'd be appreciated. Oh yeah, Matt, btw, cheers for posting those amptest clips you did last month of a 5150 and boogie!!! very imformative! \m/

@Killing Angels: It seems like you should lay off the gain a little bit on that recording. The sound is a bit too harsh and muddy, I can only presume that's because you've got the gain pumped way too high.

Ok, I'll be blatant. I play an ESP/LTD EC-1000 with dual EMG-81s. I have a rackmount EQ (31 bands), and I have the Waves Rennaissance/Gold 4.0 plugs. Can somebody PLEASE give me settings for a tone for metal. I've messed with the damn PODxt Live for I have no idea how long, just forever, and have yet to get a usable tone. I've messed with every little setting I could find, and then some. Any ideas?

Oh to add on...I use my PODxt Live for gigs with my band since it's a lot easier than lugging around any of my amps. I use to carry my 5150 combo for shows...but again, it's a lot of weight. I think my POD sounds great live, I run it through the rackmount eq and straight from that to the PA. I've actually gotten a lot of compliments on the live sound, and most of them started off with "dude, where's your amp at, I didn't see it on stage." I could post a clip of the completely dry tone I use, but for some reason, it only sounds good live, never recorded. Maybe I could post that as a starting point so you guys can help me out? Sorry to veg off of your post but you guys seem to know how to get it to sound great for recording. Yeah....weeee.

No I don't, but I have been hearing it from my friend in Florida...well hearing him tell me I really need to get it, lol. Here's the clips of my current patch for live use, the riff I play is just to show you how it sounds...not typical of my band, just had to make sure to add that disclaimer :P. First is without the rack EQ, second clip is with it. Here we go:

Without EQ

With EQ

At first listen, the first clip sounds a bit better, IMO, but in a full mix with drums, etc., it's too sharp and digital. The second clip with the rackmount EQ on it is better for a full mix, as I have found. However, it's still just not....you know...bla. Anyway, have a listen.

Cheers man, I had feeling it'd be dodgy... I'm just about to get my first proper pair of studio monitors tomorrow, I have been using rubbishy tinny PC speakers! Dunno if it's just the gain, it's the way I've tried to EQ it as well, adding too much harsh trebles and I can't even tell what's going on in the low end (again rubbish speakers). I'll be able to work seriously on the tone when I finally get my monitors!!! \m/

I've been thinking about getting the metal pack... everyone else here seems to use it and have had pretty good results. Razorjack, if it's not too much hassle could you email me your 5150 patch please?

Thanks guys.

Sounds awesome! I'm definitely curious as to how you got it to sound that good without a tube screamer. I can never get enough gain out of the POD XT without it sounding too harsh and brittle. When I put my TS808 in front, problem solved. (the virtual tube screamer sucks!)

I don't remember the settings at the moment, as I just tweaked until it sounded good and I'm not at the studio so I can't check what I did. But it was the Treadplate Dual amp with the POD's tube screamer. I'll try to remember to look at it the next time I'm there.
I also reamped that Rise To Addiction riff with the Mark IV and 5150 and will try to post those soon for those of you who might want to check them out.

Thanks for all the feedback!
