Portishead: Where to start?

dummy is a good one to start with.

the self-titled is great too, as is the one with the orchestra.

well they actually only have 2 studio albums and 1 live album... so it's pretty hard to get lost. might as well start at Dummy, their debut

lol, yes. i forgot to mention there's only the two studio albums. what i meant was dummy is the slightly more accessible of the them.

i'm not sure what beth gibbons has as far as side projects.

lol at all these knobs getting into Trip and Electronica.

hahahahahhaha
as bitter as that sounds, this is funny as hell, you gotta admit hahha
portishead? you guys have a lot of catching up to do. =)
i also would like to suggest beth gibbons' solo with rustin man "out of season"
you might like it if you already like "dummy"

I like 'Dummy'. Couldn't get into the second album for some reason. The production seemed inferior and the material seemed a bit more adventorous. I like the simpler, chilled-out vibe from Dummy. At least that's what I appreciate in trip-hop style music.

I like Dummy, but I just can't listen to it any more. That record was so massive when I was about 16 and you couldn't go to anyone's party without hearing it.

I prefer the second album, the first one is too happy imo. Second album is so incredibly haunting and dark, a beautiful piece of work. Excellent.

Love Dummy,it has classic tracks like ''mysterons'', ''wandering Star'', ''sour times'' and ''glory box'', the self-titled one is so twisted and dark, but is an awesome album too.

I had Dummy at university and loved it. Its superb, but i haven't listened to it for ages because it depresses me too much.
Im much more likely to put on a massive attack album. Reminds me, i haven't listened to Maximquaye by Tricky for years....

Does anyone know when Atomica's Metropolitan comes out???

I think the live album is their best work. Remember the first time I heard Cowboys, I was in Amsterdam stoned out of my mind.....the orchestra, then when that turntable hit I couldn't f*ckin believe what I was hearing. Top notch stuff.
