i have also been shooting a depressing number of times in the last couple years, my friend with the private farmland that we used to use all the time has been increasingly busy taking on more responsibility in the actual farming/selling aspect of the farm/business that i should probably join a private shooting club or something to keep my skills current.

CA has loopholes that'll let me get a 5.25" .45 XDm around their silly approval list. This was my reaction to that.
They're easy to build yourself if you have a guide (I put mine together.) If you don't want to, the S&W M&P15 is a good buy. And if you don't want the dust cover or forward assist, rather cheap.
