PP XII Lineup - Your Breakdown

Vanden Plas: My top highlight probably ... it's been two discs since they've been around. I can't wait to hear Christ Zero stuff.

Evergrey: If they do a lot of stuff pre MMA I'll probably really enjoy it.

Creation's End: I'm not familiar with them. I haven't got around to checking them out yet.

Voyager: A top highlight for me .. it will be interesting to watch.

Eldritch: This is one of my top highlight bands .. I kind of expect them to be one of the pleasant surprise bands for those that aren't all that familiar.

Mob Rules: None of their earlier stuff stuck with me .. I do like their latest.

Arcturus: I don't really like them that well on disc .. curiosity will keep me watching though.

Sanctuary: I never knew em' back in the day that well .. I'll be interested to see if Warrel can come close to any of the high stuff.

Haken: I don't have much interest .. I don't think I can tolerate the vocals. They grate on me badly.

While Heaven Wept: I'll check em' out .. decent on disc, but don't wow me.

Red Circuit: I've been pimping these guys for a few years now .. one of my top highlights for sure.

Labyrinth: I only like RTHD .. still I expect a nice professional performance.

Dream Evil: I've never much cared for them, but I suspect they will be good live.

Therion: I don't get it with these guys .. I'm not into them. I will however check out their set to see the stage performance. I think they put on an entertaining show.

Vanden Plas: Assuming they don't end up having to cancel due to extenuating circumstances yet again, I'll be right there, enjoying the set!

Evergrey: Don't care.

Creation's End: Not very familiar with them. Will watch some of their set. If I dig it, I'll watch the whole set.

Voyager: I'm interested to see them live, but I'll only watch part of the set, unless I really dig it.

Eldritch: Not familiar with Eldritch. See above comments on watching.

Mob Rules: I'll be watching their set!

Arcturus: The vocals are terrible. But I'm really interested to see this band's live show. I still like 'em, even if the vocals bother me.

Sanctuary: I'll stay for one song. If Warrel can pull this stuff off live, I might stay for the whole set.

Haken: Interested. Will watch a few songs, and hang around if I really like 'em.

While Heaven Wept: FUCK YES. I'll be in the photo pit with Met-Al, rocking out. And I'll be trying not to blind WHW with my camera flash.

Red Circuit: Unfamiliar with their material. See comment about Haken.

Labyrinth: YES PLEASE.

Dream Evil: OH FUCK YES. I'll be rocking out with everyone else who is super-excited to see this band live, much to Met-Al's chagrin.

Therion: OMGYESPLEASE. I love this band. Again, I'll be right there, enjoying this band. I've loved them every time I've seen them live, and I'm super-excited to see them live again!

Nor is While Heaven Wept all the Doomy. Or that Therion is a Death Metal band. It makes me wonder what he's heard, because it certainly isn't the music.

Therion I can understand, because they WERE at one time a death metal band...released some of the greatest Swedish death metal of the 90s. However, that time was nearly 20 years ago. Makes me wonder if he's actually listened to anything from the bands he's posting about. Arcturus, doom? Really?

Vanden Plas: I literally just bought Christ.0 a few weeks ago. I'll give that a listen and see what I think. :)
Evergrey: I'll see what I think of them if/when I catch them earlier in the year. One of those bands who I really, really should have checked out by now...

Creation's End: Heavy prog? I'm interested.
Voyager: Love their sound, love their vocalist. I'll definitely check them out.
Eldritch: Unsure, need to look into more.
Mob Rules: " "
Arcturus: Hell yes. CHAOS PATH PLZ.
Sanctuary: It'll be worth it just to see if Warrel can pull off those shrieks.

Haken: YESSSSS. I cheered and sang along when they came up on the video, and I've heard very excellent things about them live. Looking forward to them!
While Heaven Wept: Nearly everyone who knows my taste says they're right up my alley and I'd love them. They haven't QUITE grabbed me on disc yet, but maybe seeing them live will do the trick.
Red Circuit: See: Eldritch/Mob Rules. If they don't grab me: dinnertime.
Labyrinth: Another classic band ... who I've yet to actually listen to! :p RtHD is the one everyone raves over, yes? I'll get on that at some point...
Dream Evil: Dis gonna be fuuuuuuun. :D
Therion: If I'm not epic'd into oblivion, I will be disappointed.

Let me get this straight...

Are we saying there are still people who think While Heaven Wept is just a doom band, and who still thinks Therion is mainly a death metal band?

Seriously!?!?!?!?!?

Yeah, that's the one to have for their prog years. I also like their latest three power/thrashy oriented discs. I think Portait Of The Abyss Within is probably the best of the three, but I also enjoy Neighborhell, and Blackenday.

I saw them live in Chicago a few years back .. thought they were high quality.

Eldritch played in Chicago? Powerfest?

Just about every resource lists WHW as doom. Arcturus is listed as black metal. Therion as symphonic death. The bands themselves and their record labels, I presume, throw in the terms "experimental" or "progressive". That's pretty much a veil to get them wider acceptance. That doesn't remove what they actually are. I may have missed Arcturus's label abit. But, doom/black/death, it's all the same to me. It all sucks to high heaven.

Yes I have listened. Yes they suck.

Yes.

If anyone at PP XII fires me up the way Orphaned Land and Sabaton did at PP X, or Tyr and Tarot did this past September, then the entire weekend will, again, have been a success.

I've already begun listening to Mob Rules - they are up my alley, as is Red Circuit (for Chity's voice, if no other reason). I've heard so much about Therion's stage show that I'm planning on no alcohol, lots of caffeine to make it through the night. Any recommendations from folks as to bands to REALLY look into from this lineup? I am not so much into screaming/grunting/all minor key Death stuff. Sweep Arpeggios, well-orchestrated stuff, and Hard Rock is more my speed.

Yes.

I wouldn't call Arcturus progressive, I definitely think they are experimental. Not sure what you mean by record labels calling them experimental as a veil to get them wider acceptance. Your music doesn't have to rip off Dream Theater to be progressive and experimental. Word that you don't like them though. Not for everyone I suppose and if you don't like screaming vocals then this isn't a band to convert you to.

Vanden Plas - I'll watch them. I saw them at PPIV and loved their show. "Far Off Grace" is a masterpiece IMHO.

Evergrey - Same as VP. I've seen Evergrey many times and they have yet to disappoint me.

Creation's End - I bought the CD, but haven't checked it out yet. Love Mike DiMeo, though.

Voyager - Know nothing about them except for what I heard on their myspace page. I'm no prog guy by any means and I thank God for that every day. However, at least they sound different to me than so many other Dream Theater clones.

Eldritch - I fucking love "Neighborhell" and "Blackenday". I love the heavier, thrashier musical direction. Looking forward to them.

Mob Rules - Love 'em and can't wait to see 'em!

Arcturus - Ah, yes. The wildcard if you will. The intrigue of seeing them outweighs the fear that they will blow.

Sanctuary - Two words: Fuck and yes.

Haken - Know zero about them. Not prog inclined. But, I give every band a shot. I appreciate all the bands coming and playing for us.

While Heaven Wept - Have the CD, but haven't checked it out yet. Even a little doom interests me greatly.

Red Circuit - Love Chity Sompala. Have both discs. Haven't listened yet. That said, I believe I'll love them.

Labyrinth - Love power metal goodness immensely!

Dream Evil - Holy shit do I love this band! I have since the beginning and Glenn is realizing my dream of finally seeing them live! Thank you, Sensei!

Therion - Where do I start? They fucking killed the first time they were here and I never thought I'd get to see them again. I love this band so much it hurts! They do no wrong and IMHO are incapable of doing so. Again, thank you, Sensei. Just another reason to pile on to the ginormous amount of reasons why Glenn is da fuckin' man!
